National Heatstroke Prevention Day is July 31, 2018
A series of recent heat waves have set all time highs across the WAMPO region. Please remember, vehicles heat up quickly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and other safety advocates and academic institutions have recognized the safety threat heatstroke pose for leaving children in hot cars.
Here are the current stats as of 7/23/2018:
- Number of children that have died from heatstroke in 2018: 26
- Number of child heatstroke fatalities in 2017: 43
- Average number of child heatstroke fatalities per year since 1998: 37
- Total number of child heatstroke fatalities from 1998 - present: 769

Safety Analysis
WAMPO recently completed an analysis of how well the region is doing in meeting its safety goals. Data shows that our region is on track for achieving our safety targets and highlights how WAMPO Transportation Improvement Program projects are helping to make getting around our region even safer.

Planning Walkable Places Program (PWP)
|
The funding for the WAMPO Planning Walkable Places (PWP) Program comes from "leftover" funds that pose special difficulties for use on construction projects.
The purpose of this program is to help meet the current and anticipated future need for walkable place-making in the WAMPO region.
This focused program promotes vibrancy, community, and economic vitality today and over the long term. Here are some of the active projects:
Goddard
Goddard Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan
The city is working to prepare a new Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan. This plan will identify overall goals and guide the City's growth in expanding existing trails, sidewalks and pathways into destination-based networks. Learn more about this project here: www.activegoddard.com
Garden Plain
Garden Plain Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan
The city is working to prepare aPedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan. This plan will identify overall goals and guide the City's growth in expanding the Prairie Sunset Trail, sidewalks and pathways into destination-based networks. Learn more about this project here:

Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
A public review and comment period is now open for 6th amendment to the WAMPO TIP.
The TIP is a short-range program that identifies transportation projects to be implemented in the WAMPO region over a 4 year period. All projects using Federal funds in the region are required to be included in the TIP and represented in the long-range transportation plan (MOVE 2040).
