First Day of School
There’s nothing like the first day of school! It’s a day of great hope and excitement… with a touch of nervousness. We want to thank families, faculty, and staff for the awesome first day spirit.

This first day was more significant than usual because of our district’s reconfiguration. All of the preparation that occurred over the last year paid dividends -- schools and classrooms were prepared and teachers and staff were ready to welcome students to their new locations. A new year of learning has begun!

We did have some first day issues which we are working to resolve, especially with the afternoon elementary bus runs. Thanks for your anticipated patience and assistance while we work them out. Read more...
Transportation Update
The Cortland Enlarged City School District is committed to an effective, efficient, and safe system of transportation.

This message is to update you on afternoon dismissal procedures for elementary students. We are making changes to our dismissal process to help the flow of buses and parent pickup. An elementary bus status display has been added to our website and will be updated in real time showing on-time or length of a delay. More staff have been assigned to answer the transportation department phone lines until issues have been resolved. Please know that we take transportation seriously and are doing everything possible to make the process better. The safety of our students is always our top priority.

No matter what, please know that we make sure that each and every student gets
home. Our transportation team’s day does not end until each student makes it home.

We’re making the following changes in order to improve the transportation system:
  • A “Bus Status Display” has been created. Similar in concept to the displays we see at an airport, this display lists the bus routes and whether they are on time or running behind. The display will be updated frequently during the morning and afternoon bus runs. Click here to access the Bus Status Display.
  • Dismissal procedures have been revisited in each of the three elementary schools. Adjustments have been made that are intended to speed up the process and improve the accuracy.
  • More staff have been assigned to answer the transportation department phone lines until issues have been resolved.
  • School Messenger System (text, phone, email) will be used to send out a schoolwide message to communicate any systemwide delays.
7th Graders Visit 9/11 Memorial
Today, Americans join together with somber tributes in remembrance of the 2,976 people that perished in terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Flight 93 seventeen years ago. Citizens and students of Cortland, NY were no exception as they gathered this morning in Courthouse Park.

First responders, including police and firefighters, gathered around Courthouse Park to see the dedication of the new memorial and listen to the speakers. In the center of the park, the memorial is composed of two metal towers reaching towards the sky. This memorial, due to a generous donation from the Trolley Museum in Kingston, NY, was constructed using artifacts from the World Trade Center site. It resembles two steel towers constructed of twisted metal emerging from the rubble and honors the lives lost at the World Trade Center in NYC and represents perseverance. Read more..

Welcome Back Staff
On September 3 we welcomed back staff with a kick off in the gymnasium at the High School. Part of the ceremony was recognizing our staff for completing years of service: 25, 30 and even 35 years! After the kick off staff returned to their own buildings and continued to get ready for the arrival of students. The video below captures some of the highlights of the day!
