Westland Road Project Updates
Westland, MI (July 31, 2018) - The City of Westland continues to work to improve the condition of its over 200 miles of roads, despite being faced with funding limitations.  Westland's current budget includes $3 million for road construction this year. Work has begun on many problem areas around the city.  Several of the city's 2018 summer road projects have been completed and the next phase of road work is getting underway.  

Phase 1 of the 2018 Road Project list was completed by Independence Day and included:

Newburgh Rd. at Marquette 
    • Asphalt pavement milling and resurfacing 
    • Total cost of the project is $105,000 funded through the Major Road Fund 

Brookfield Subdivision
    • Joint and crack resealing
    • Preventative maintenance project
    • Total cost of the project is $60,000 funded through local road fund


TIFA District Sidewalk Replacement
    • Repaired or replaced hazardous sidewalks in the TIFA district
    • Total cost of the project is $32,000 funded by TIFA

 
Phase 2 of the 2017-2018 road rehabilitation program began in Mid-July and includes:

Annapolis Rd.
    • Between Middlebelt and Inkster Rd.
    • Joint project with the City of Inkster
    • Scope of project includes removal and replacement of deficient concrete
    • Westland's cost share is $100,000 funded through Major Road Fund

 
Ford Rd.
    • Between Lotz and Wayne Rd.
    • Constructed and funded by MDOT
    • Scope of project includes asphalt pavement mill and resurfacing as well as the installation of ADA compliant ramps
    • Total cost of the project is $2.3 million


 
Farmington Rd.
    • Between Ford Rd. and Hunter
    • Scope of the project includes removal and replacement of deficient concrete
    • Cost of the project is $300,000 funded through Major Road Fund


 
Wildwood Rd.
    • Between Palmer and Cherry Hill
    • Scope of the project includes removal and replacement of deficient  concrete pavement
    • Total cost of the project is $450,000 funded through the Major Road Fund

 
Eton St. and Harrison Intersection 
    • Reconstruction of failed concrete pavement
    • Cost of the project is $28,000 funded through the local road fund

The City is served by two public school districts; Wayne-Westland Community Schools serving 12,000 youth was recently named one of the Best School in Michigan by WXYZ-TV and is the proud recipient of 14 Golden Apple and two Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.  Livonia Public Schools, educating nearly 15,000 students, is proud of their MEAP/MME scores that exceed state averages and the District has also earned Golden Apple and Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.
