Getting Ready for 2018-2019
Student Registration
From The Desk of.....
Welcome to the first edition of Falcon Focus for the 2018-19 school year. This Back-to-School edition highlights key information, informing you of tasks that need your attention so everything is ready for that first day of school!
The most important and required task is annual registration, which is online and opens August 6. By now, you should have received a letter in the mail outlining the procedures required to register your child for the upcoming school year. If you have not received this letter or have misplaced it, please contact Nancy Switalla by phone at 262-843-2321 ext. 382 or by email at
[email protected]
.
In addition to completing the annual registration, all students will need to stop in on one of the two designated days to have their picture taken for their school ID. Students will need their ID starting the first day of school. Therefore, if you have not done so already, mark your calendar for either August 9 or August 27, whichever day works for your schedule.
The final information I would like to share is the extreme tightness of our course schedule. August 6, is not only the opening day of registration, but also, the first day students will be able to see their 2018-19 course schedule. Unless a student was unable to get a course they selected, at which time they worked with their counselor for an alternative, your child's schedule reflects their chosen courses. Last spring, counselors heavily communicated to students and information was shared with parents via Falcon Focus, that the number of seats in courses will be based on student course selections. As students view their schedule, they may wish to swap out one course for another. Unfortunately, this flexibility may not be possible. While a few seats are left open for students new to our district, there are very few, if any, open seats after new students are added. Sometimes a student is lucky, and a student we planned for has moved or another student was able to switch their course. These situations and opportunities are unpredictable and in defense of our counselors who work very hard to meet student needs, please do not become upset if they are not able to arrange a course change. Further, I would like to remind you that while some students may prefer one teacher over another, unless that student (not a friend, brother or sister) has had that teacher and has had a negative academic outcome, it is our policy not to make schedule changes for teacher preference. Again, it is important that you understand this so you know the expectation our counselors are asked to uphold.
In closing, thank you for taking the time to review all pertinent information and for promptly taking care of annual registration by the deadline of August 17. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year, full of great student accomplishments and adventures!

Parent Responsibility - Student Attendance Procedures
As we begin another school year, we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of their responsibility to notify the school when their child will not be attending.
We have created a document,
Attendance Procedures, (click link) located on the CHS Families page of our website, which highlights expectations for when students are gone, need to leave early or are planning an extended absence.
Briefly, when a student is not going to be at school,
the school must be notified by 8 AM on the day they are out. The easiest way to notify the school is to call the Attendance Line at (262) 843-3820, leaving a message by clearly stating your name, your child's name, the reason for the absence and a contact number if there are further questions.
If a student is not in attendance, whether it is for a full day or a single period and no excuse called in, an automated message will be sent to parents indicating this unexcused absence and the need to clear it up. Please understand that absences not cleared up remain unexcused and can subject the student to school discipline and/or truancy citations due to the Wisconsin Compulsory Attendance law.
Last, if your child needs to leave school for part of a day because of an appointment, we must have a written note from parents indicating the reason and time. Due to staff reductions in the main office, it will be difficult to deliver messages and/or personal belongings to students during the day. Parents are kindly being asked to plan ahead to eliminate/reduce these requests.
We know that regular attendance is essential for success; However, on days when your child is not feeling well or has an appointment, we thank parents for their cooperation in ensuring attendance procedures are being followed.

Starting on August 6, the registration window will open in the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus. This year the annual registration process has been streamlined. Parents can complete the handbook and technology acknowledgements, update health and contact information, and pay student fees through their Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account from home.
If you complete registration online it is not necessary to come to school for In-Person Assistance. In-person assistance is for families who do not have internet access or who may need help with the registration process. Staff will be available to answer questions on August 9 between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm.

CHS Website and App
Central High School is in our second year of our redesigned website. The website design is mobile friendly, allows for quick searches and will have more information about news and upcoming events.
Central also has a mobile web App that you can download to your phone. The App allows you to get push notifications and alerts right at your fingertips. Go to the App Store for IPhone, or Play Store for Android and search for Central High School District of Westosha.
We are always looking for ways to better the communication between the school, parents, students and our community. We strongly encourage families and our students to access our website on a daily basis. We encourage our students to download the App to have instantaneous information about activities at Central.
