Scriptural Encouragement
1 Peter 2:21-24 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

I had that happy experience today of seeing something in the Scriptures I hadn't seen before. Not only that but it was one of those occasions where it makes you feel all the more that the Word is living and active, true, reliable and sufficient for us to know God and follow him. I was prepping the sermon for Matthew 16 where Peter, true to form, sticks his foot all the way in his mouth and 'rebukes' the Lord Jesus for predicting his own death on the cross. It didn't make sense to Peter that Jesus would willingly suffer and die. But, because of what we read in 1 Peter we know Peter did come to understand and not only that. He came to see the beauty and glory of Jesus' death on the cross for sinners. What struck me is how Peter speaks in the same way that Jesus does. Where Jesus says, "If you try to save your life you'll lose it, but whoever would lose his life for my sake will find it," Peter says, "that we might die to sin and live to righteousness." Both Peter and Jesus are saying that because of Jesus' sacrifice for our forgiveness we can be set free to die (to ourselves) and be raised (to live for Christ). We can say no to sin. We can walk in holiness and obedience. We can grow into the image of Christ. There is life on the other side of every death to sin self. Now, that's the real way to celebrate Independence Day!

Worship Gathering Plans
We will continue to gather in person for worship at Discovery church this Sunday at 10:30AM. The usual precautions will be in place.  IN ADDITION : We have overflow now available in the fellowship/Gathering Grounds side of our building. We have a hard-line connection to the TV in the fellowship area where the service can be viewed if you want to be present for worship but would also like a little more physical distance than the worship center provides. Our Live-stream will continue to be offered and can be viewed, as usual, on our Facebook page.

*An Additional Note on Childcare:  We're beginning to survey which of our volunteers might feel comfortable returning to help in nursery so we can offer that ministry to parents in the near future. There is still NO PRESSURE to volunteer at this time, but if we have willing volunteers for nursery or other ministries we want to begin finding ways to put their gifts to use. If you are comfortable and willing to help in nursery please contact the office if we haven't reached you yet. That would help us a ton!
