WHY YOU LOVE MHSMIDTOWN
This past week we held a contest to win a pair of Music Midtown Festival 2-Day Armbands for following our Student Council social media handles: @miltonstuco on Instagram and @miltonstudentco on Twitter and posting "Why you love MHS"

Collin Armstrong was our winner with the following post/poem: Your school is fun
Your school is great
But when it comes to repping the M your school could never relate
All my friends are fye
No one is fake
The love is real
No one hates
You can do you own thing in front of a crowd
You can be your own person and shout aloud
You can go anywhere and find a hand
You can talk to all your teachers and become a better man-woman
I love Milton with my whole heart
I'm excited for the next four years that I'm about to start!

If you haven't already - please follow out social media handles for information about homecoming week, prom, football themes, dress-up days, school events, etc.

MINDFULNESS INITIATIVE AT MILTONMINDFULNESS
We are so proud to announce the completion of the first stage of our Mindfulness Initiative - Milton's Wellness Studio! Milton's School Governance Council has been working on a a Mindfulness Initiative since this past January to make a positive impact our students' physical and mental health and wellness. One stage of this initiative was to create a space to be used to offer free Breathing, Relaxation and Movement classes to teachers and students throughout the day. Ten members of the Milton staff are currently completing a Mindfulness and Movement in Education certification in order to offer these classes to students as soon as February!
In the meantime, our Wellness Studio is being used to serve staff in free movement sessions with amazing instructors like Jenny Miller and Karen Jones.
Our SGC is making amazing strides to better the lives
of our students and staff here at Milton!
SOS PROGRAMSOSPROGRAM
Milton High School Guidance Counselors will be delivering the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Program to our freshman students on September 17 and 18. The goal of this program is to help freshman students recognize the signs of suicide in themselves, friends, and loved ones, and know what to do when they recognize the warning signs. Our purpose is to educate our students and connect them with trusted adults who can help them in times of stress or concern. Feel free to contact Julie Gracey (Director of Counseling) with any questions you may have. 470-254-7120 or GraceyJ@fultonschools.org
AP TEST INFORMATIONAPTESTING
As you know, taking the Advanced Placement exam is an important part of all AP courses. Milton High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can possibly earn student's college credit for their high school classes, saving a significant amount on tuition. AP exams are given to Milton students at no cost. Students will have the ability to continue in this tradition by registering for their tests during the priority registration window.

Students must sign in on https://myap.collegeboard.org  and use their College Board account, which is the same login that they may have used to access past AP, PSAT, or for the SAT scores. If you do not have an account, click the Sign Up link on the website. When registering,  please be sure that you DO NOT  use your FCS issued email address ; use an email address you regularly check. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.

Students must enroll in their class sections for each AP course they take. Your AP teacher(s) will provide you a join code to enroll in each of your class section(s). Once you receive your join code(s), you can sign into https://myap.collegeboard.org to complete the registration process for classroom resources and to register for your exam(s). To complete the registration, students must answer all required questions.
You will click either Yes or No indicating whether
you will sit for the exam or not.
If you are taking an AP course through Georgia Virtual, you will receive your join code(s) through an email from Ms. White. You will only enroll in an exam only section.

Priority Exam Registration will begin on Monday, September 16, 2019. You will have until Wednesday, November 13, 2019 to complete your registration at no cost.

For students taking an AP course for the full year, Online Late Registration will begin on Friday, November 15, 2019 at a cost of $40 per exam for full year AP classes, and end on  March 11, 2020. If you are only registered for a second semester AP course (not a full year course), you will only incur a late registration fee if you register after Wednesday, March 11, 2020 Any canceled exams or if a student is not present on exam day the cancellation fee is $40.

Here are the important dates for the registration process:

HALL OF FAME WEEKENDHOFWEEKEND
This year's MHS Hall of Fame weekend is coming up on September 27 and 28. We would love to fill the football stands and seats in the auditorium with current students, faculty and staff, and community members! This year we're inducting a former golf team member who's now playing on the PGA tour, a former standout English student who's now an independent bookstore owner, a former member of the football team who's now playing for the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL, a former chorus member who's now singing with the LA Opera, and a WWII military hero who graduated in 1934. In addition to the graduates, we're inducting a retired Social Studies teacher and retired Art teacher/department chair-both of whom were beloved by students and fellow faculty alike. These inductees are former students and faculty who have come before us and paved the way for our "tradition of excellence since 1921." Let's all turn out and show our appreciation! See the invitation below for details.

PSAT DAY PSATDAY
PSAT on WEDNESDAY, October 16
Parents and Guardians, Please mark your calendars: it is critical for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students to be in attendance on this testing day. We kindly request to consider NOT checking your child out of school for any reason during that day so they can complete the entire test. There are NO MAKE UP SESSIONS for the PSAT. So, if they do not finish their test in one setting, they will not receive a score.

PREPARING FOR THE PSAT
Please ensure that your child has a good night of rest and a healthy breakfast. We will send PSAT study guides (free of charge) home on September 17th so students can get familiar with test procedures, test-taking advice, and complete a practice exam.

Why is it important for my child to
take   and do well on the PSAT?
  • It helps students navigate their path through high school toward college and career and offers a range of unique benefits to students.
  • The National Merit Scholarship Program uses PSAT/NMSQT scores to identify candidates. And scholarships offered by new College Board partners use information from the PSAT/NMSQT to expand access to scholarship dollars.
  • Students who take PSAT will have access to video lessons and will receive personalized SAT study resources based on their test results. Their Khan Academy® practice experience is tailored to meet individual student needs.
  • Using results from the redesigned PSAT/NMSQT, AP PotentialTM helps schools identify students likely to succeed in certain AP courses and AP Exams. These students are also notified of their potential directly.
PSAT test fees for 9th and 11th graders are paid by Fulton County school system. PSAT test fees for 10th graders are paid by Georgia Department of Education. PSAT is critical for college and career readiness.
