Creating Clean Air
Our Air, Your Future: Creating Clean Air Advocates begins this fall. Hundreds of high school students across Fairfax County and the District of Columbia will learn how ozone and particulates form, how these pollutants harm human health, and what can be done to reduce campus exposure for all. Local Sierra Club members are also participating in an air monitoring program.

Mountain Valley Pipeline Loses Key Permit
On August 28, one week after a coalition of conservation groups led by the Sierra Club requested a stay while a federal court reviews their legal challenge to the USFWS’s approval for the 303-mile pipeline, FERC effectively invalidated its current major permit for the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

Also, j oin your friends and neighbors at the Fourth Annual Hands Across the Appalachian Trail in Northern Virginia on September 29 to support the pipeline efforts .

86-bed Assisted Living Facility
Hunter Mill Assisted Living - A Special Exception is being requested for an assisted living center for a septic system. There are ground water issues (no protection for private well water users), medical waste, and Angelica Branch stream valley concerns, among others. Sierra Club opposes this development.

There have been numerous developments over the past couple of weeks. The applicant has requested an indefinite deferral. Applicant’s letter can be found at www.ProtectHMR.com. The Planning Commission will be addressing the applicant’s request at the 9/12 hearing originally scheduled for Decision Only.

Blake Lane Park
While the county searches for an alternative site for the Oakton/Fairfax elementary schools, the Save Blake Lane park community has been busy attending meetings and writing letters.
