Unity Foundation: Together for Peace -
9th Annual Peace Day Global Broadcast

This year, on September 21,  Unity Foundation's Peace Day Global Broadcast reached hundreds of thousands around the globe with a video marathon of hit music, stories about people successfully tackling world problems with the help of the UN, and peace messages from public figures like Michael Douglas, Ringo Starr, Jane Goodall. Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, and peace ambassador Prem Rawat.  The broadcast streamed directly from  peacechannel.com , from the websites of the United Nations and EU Pledge to Peace, and many other supportive internet and social media sites.  The broadcast garnered more than 700,000 views, more than doubling last year's audience.

The 2017 UN theme was "Together for Peace: Respect, Dignity and Safety for All."    Much of the global broadcast focused on the plight of the world's 65 million refugees.  One animated segment narrated the perilous journey made by Syrian Olympic swimmer Yusra Mardini, recently appointed a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.

"In times of insecurity, communities that look different become convenient scapegoats," said United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. "Together, let us stand up against bigotry and for human rights. Together, let us build bridges. Together, let us transform fear into hope."

"Music is a universal language and on Peace Day, it says peace," said Unity Foundation President Bill McCarthy, the global broadcast founder and longtime community activist.  "We showcased artists using their celebrity to promote peace through the  United Nations : Katy Perry playing with refugee children, Shakira campaigning against child marriage, and Pharell Williams, encouraging youth to seek happiness in their lives."

PeaceC hannel.com  streams the best of humanity, 24/7, 365 days a year.  Unity Foundation and the Peace Channel have already begun production for the tenth anniversary of the Peace Day Global Broadcast.   Supportive organizations are welcome to embed the Peace Channel video stream on their websites.

More Global Webcasts for More Global Action

On September 25, Peace Channel, in partnership with Unity Foundation, launched its first Global Webcast for the Global Goals, as part of the Global Day of Action for the Sustainable Development Goals. "We intend to do this each year until 2030, when the goals are meant to be complete," said Dr. Darlene Shelton, Peace Channel Executive Producer.

Starting in 2018, the partnership also plans  to
produce worldwide webcasts for three more UN International Days:  International Women's Day in March, World Refugee Day in June, and Human Rights Day in December.

"We're looking for short, broadcast-quality videos with news, views and music that help viewers experience what its like to actually live in a world of peace and prosperity," said Dr. Shelton. "We  also  welcome  people to tape a one to two minute  video  expressing their  feelings about peace and global action."
