DCASE is pleased to announce a series of three free events to explore public art and its relationships to Chicago communities. To continue the important, collective exchanges in vision, policy and the future for public art in Chicago during 2017 and 2018, individuals from across the city were invited to contribute to the Chicago Public Art Plan. One of the fundamental questions raised was about the role of communities and how artists work in neighborhoods as insiders, outsiders and outliers. Who chooses the works and does the current process remain relevant as the location of an expanding social and civic-minded group of practices in Chicago now coexists alongside experimental, collaborative, commissioned and traditional processes. In short: how do we work better in neighborhoods? For more information, visit cityofchicago.org/dcase.
