Practical halacha, actual exams
OU’s Semichat Chaver program wows students in Rockland, Bergen

For Josh Wertentheil, 37, the weekly class is like no other study he found after graduating from yeshiva.

“It’s much more dynamic,” Mr. Wertentheil said. “It’s much more real.”

For one thing, unlike most Torah study classes, this one includes exams at the end of the semester.

Good news: Mr. Wertentheil passed.

Parenting in difficult times

It was a few weeks into the quarantine period when I decided to clean my pantry in anticipation of Passover, along with preparing for my first congregational virtual seder.

It was a rare few moments when I was not by phone when I heard the buzz of the microwave. Somehow my 1.5-year-old and 3.5-year-old brought stepstools into the kitchen, got their hands on my phone, and figured out how to push buttons to operate the microwave. My phone was burnt into oblivion, narrowly escaping a small house fire, in the middle of a global pandemic.
Rockland talk rescheduled for fall

The brunch and lecture by Father Patrick Desbois’ for Rockland’s Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education has been rescheduled for Sunday, November 15.

Father Patrick Desbois, who is a professor at Georgetown University and a human rights activist, is the founder and president of Yahad-In Unum. He has devoted his life to fighting the bigotry that fuels genocide and to bridging the divide between faiths. For about 15 years, working with his Yahad-In Unum team, he has led an historic undertaking by finding undiscovered mass graves of Jews and Roma killed during the Holocaust in Eastern Europe.

The museum will honor tickets sold for the May lecture. For more information, call (845) 574-4099 or go to holocauststudies.org .
