Dear Neighbor,
Next week, Tuesday, April 28 (starting at 4:00 p.m.), Wednesday, April 29 (starting at 3:00 p.m.), and Thursday, April 30 (starting at 3:00 p.m.), the County will hold public hearings on the budget. Residents will be able to provide testimony on the budget proposal via video, phone, or in writing, but, in order to protect the public and staff, there will be no in-person testimony. More information on how to participate is available online at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/bosclerk/speakers-form.
Today is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. I have included information about Earth Day below. In addition, as always, I am including resources from Fairfax County for staying informed during the coronavirus pandemic.
Earth Day 2020
In April 1970, 20 million Americans participated in the first Earth Day to call attention to environmental degradation and to insist on a better future for people and the planet. As a result of this movement, many landmark environmental policies in the United States, including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act, were enacted.
Now, 50 years later, Earth Day is marked by many millions of people worldwide as a day of reflection, action, and collaboration. This year, the Earth Day theme is "Climate Action," and the global conversation is focused on the various challenges and vast opportunities presented by our changing climate.
Here in Fairfax County, we are tackling climate change mitigation through our
Community-wide Energy and Climate Action Plan and by embracing the notion that small actions, taken by each of us on a regular basis, can make a big difference. For more information on the actions you can take this Earth Day and throughout the year, check out the
climate action news feed from the County's Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination, or follow along on Twitter
