What a Spring and Summer we’ve had. We ended our year in June with a bang, with some fine performances in Outdoor Provincials by a couple of our players (see below); followed by a wonderful showing by Ace’s Ariana Arsenault at the Rogers Cup - and a rewarding comeback performance by Rachel Kryzak, overcoming a difficult period of injury (see below). Heartiest congratulations to Ace Burlington’s Eiji Fujita - who just finished 3rd at the Canadian U12 Junior Outdoor Nationals in Quebec!  More from Doug

Coach Brandon Alguire thinks the sky is the limit for Eijii Fujita
Eijii finished 3rd in the U12 outdoor nationals in Quebec, and also finished 5th at the U12 Provincials , and was a Finalist with doubles partner Filip Radulovic in the same tournament as well as receiving the Fair Play Award in the same category. More from coach Brandon Alguire
Ariana Arseneault making big waves
In addition to reaching the quarter final in the prestigious ITF J1 in Repentigny last week, defeating the #10 ITF World Ranked Junior, Ariana earned an opportunity to participate in the 2019 Rogers Cup Qualifying event in Toronto. Nemanja Stefanovic; hard work pays off U14 Provincials Champion,U14 Nationals 6th place, U14 National Doubles Champion, U16 Provincials 3rd place and U16 Nationals 6th place Victor Hoang is Nemanja's coach; " I have been working with Nemanja for two years now. Rachel Krzyzak winning 10 months after knee surgery Former Canadian Nationa l Champion U12 and U16 Rachel K rzyzak made her return to competition at the Milton Tennis Club OTA Open 10 months after a knee operation.   Susan, Rachel’s mother, and President at Milton Tennis Club was quoted “Today marks a very special day for the Kitamura/Krzyzak family!!  More from Susan Kitamura.
Young players showing great potential Maria Youssef [9] and Deniz Karabulut [8] have both been on a winning streak this summer, competing in tournaments every weekend. Deniz's coach Walker Lamarche says; "They hit their groove by winning six straight U10 Future Stars events before they were finally stopped. Deniz continued his amazing season by heading to the Little Mo tournament across the border, and winning all the categories in the U8 draw; singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Deniz has a passion for tennis, and works diligently to achieve his goals."
Maria's coach Kyrylo Tabunshchyk says; "Maria's consistent training and hard work this summer were reflected in her outstanding results in the Future Stars category since June, and she is excited to be joining the Provincial Program at ACE Burlington this fall, hoping she can reproduce those achievements at the U12 level ." Maria and Deniz currently hold the #1 spot in U10 Girls and Boys ranking respectively. Congratulations to both from the ACE Team and thank you to their parents for being so committed to their development!

The objective of our "Growing the Game " initiative is to recruit families to our wonderful sport ( tennis - the sport of a lifetime) and retain them through; the maximizing and effective utilization of resources (courts at Parks & Rec facilities/ Community Clubs), through collaboration and partnerships with the City of Toronto and the various municipalities in the GTA, and by providing services which assist with the formation and management of Community Clubs, offering proven low cost introductory programming at these facilities."

ACE, Tennis Canada and ORC host coaching conference with Louis Cayer, Canada's International Coaching Guru
Craig Mercer hosts Tennis Canada workshop in Montreal On August 5, TTC Tennis Director, Craig Mercer delivered a Quality Standards for Kids workshop for Tennis Canada hosted in Montreal during the Rogers Cup! 30 coaches attended this workshop. Craig presented for 3 hours in French which was appreciated by the mostly francophone coaches. Benjamin Cayuela, a former Toronto Tennis City coach who recently moved to Quebec attended the workshop and brought along members of his coaching staff.
Raheel Manji gettng insight on upcoming tennis travel from former Florida State Kevin Green
Raheel, an ACE alumni and former University of Indiana captain, seen here with  Kevin Green; a great friend of Canadian tennis and Israel Tennis Centres. The two met up at Toronto Tennis City before Raheel left for a series of Challengers in Israel.
Interview with Matt Klinger
Matt Klinger was a former Canadian Junior Champion who started his high performance training at the old All Canadian Academy at York University. He then had a stellar collegiate career playing in the number one position at Arizona State University, before graduating to the Canadian Davis Cup Team. Read Interview with Matt.

Darian is a close friend of Ace President Doug Burke and his son Brandon - both seen here at Burlington Tennis Club with ACE alumni player Roy Stefanov. Darian was undergoing a few days of training (under Doug’s watchful eye) - in preparation for the ATP summer circuit.

TPA Service to the Game Excellence award goes to Pierre Lamarche Several important figures in the Canadian tennis landscape were honoured for their service to the sport with TPA Excellence Awards, which were given out at the Coaches Conference during Rogers Cup.

Programs have already started this week in Toronto at Toronto Tennis City, and will start next week in Burlington. Skills Development programs will run for three 15 weeks sessions; Fall, Winter and Spring, and the Academy year runs from September to June.

Helen Donohoe, M.S.Ed., is a teacher of English and French in the Hamilton/Burlington area.
