Senior Sunday
On Sunday, June 28, we will celebrate our high school seniors. The seniors and their immediate families will be invited to join us for worship (in a socially distant manner), where they will be wrapped in their senior quilt and sent with a blessing. This service will be live streamed to the congregation.
Directly following worship, from 11-11:45am, we will have a parking lot celebration for the seniors. Each graduate will set up a spot in our north parking lot and members of the congregation are invited and encouraged to drive through the parking lot to share greetings, congratulations and warm wishes. We hope you will join us.
The seniors pictures are featured below.
A huge thank you to Nancy Kirkpatrick, who made all nine quilts for our seniors!

Phase 2 Update
In light of King County moving into Phase 2, Messiah is currently evaluating and working to implement policies and practices that will allow some re-opening of the building at a date to be determined in July. Currently, the building remains closed except for those leading worship and facilitating the two community meals and the Wednesday morning foodbank.
On June 18, the State of Washington published a document entitled, “Phase 1, Modified Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 Religious and Faith-based Organization COVID-19 Requirements.” It is available on our website at
www.mlcauburn.org
. Messiah leaders and staff will continue to utilize and put into practice the requirements published both by the state and our own King County. Watch for details about re-opening plans in the Messiah Weekly, on our church website, and through social media.

Worship Bulletins
The worship bulletins that are sent out electronically on Saturday are printable from your home computers. When you receive the email, open it and press "ctrl p" on your keyboard and it will print.
On Thursday afternoons, we will place pre-printed bulletins in the Messiah Lending Library (the box pictured in this article). It is located on H street outside the kitchen. Please feel free to stop by and pick one up if you do not have a computer or printer at home.
Please contact Tia Monsen if you have any questions.

New Keys
In order to ensure a safe environment in our building, Messiah has re-keyed the outside doors to the church. At this point, staff, Wednesday Foodbank, and community meals have keys to access the building. In order to comply with health and insurance regulations, the building is not yet open for general use. Please watch for further details on accessing the building.

Messiah Finance Update
In May, Messiah received General Fund Income of $48,716.13. Our General Fund Expenses were $55,347.78. This resulted in a shortfall in our General fund of $6,631.65.
Although the shortfall was covered by funds from the government’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), these funds are of a limited duration and amount. Messiah continues to rely on the generous offerings of our members, friends, and neighbors. Especially during this time of pandemic, we can ensure a continued and robust ministry at Messiah through a regular pattern of giving to both Messiah’s General Fund and Community Needs Fund.

Dear Church
On July 1st, Faith Lutheran Church in Maryland is hosting an online (Zoom) event with Lenny Duncan, author of
Dear Church: A Love Letter from a Black Pastor to the Whitest Denomination in the US
. We will be reading and discussing Dear Church later on in July, so if anyone is interested in attending this event tickets are $5 and are going fast! Click on the link to purchase your tickets and the Zoom link will be sent to your email the day of the event.
Duncan's powerful book is part manifesto, part confession, and all love letter. Dear Church offers a bold new vision for the future of his denomination (our denomination) and the broader mainline Christian community of faith. Dear Church rejects the narrative of 'church decline' and calls everyone-- leaders and laity alike-- to the front lines of the church's renewal through racial equality and justice.

Feminist Book Club
For July we will be reading fiction book by Sue Monk Kidd entitled,
The Book of Longings
. A few of us have read it already and loved it, so I'm really excited for our next book club, which will be held via Zoom on July 7th at 6:30pm. I will send out a reminder and an invite to the meeting the week before.
If you'd like to plan ahead in ordering books, our book for August will be
Rescuing Jesus: How People of Color, Women, and Queer Christians are Reclaiming Evangelicalism
by Deborah Jian Lee . Date and location TBD.
Lastly, Messiah will be hosting a two-part discussion focused on the book
Dear Church: A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the US
by Lenny Duncan on Wednesday July 8th and 15th at 6pm. This isn't a Feminist Theology Book Club event, but I'd like to invite you to join if you are interested!

Engage
At Messiah we have made it one of our key priorities and values to engage in the community around us. Even in the midst of a pandemic, there are many ways for us to continue to live into that call. Each week I will provide a list of a couple ways we can continue to serve and support our community partners. If you have any questions or suggestions please let Savannah know!

ELCA Advocacy Action Center
- As members of the ELCA, we believe that we are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. God uses our hands, through our direct service work and our voices, through our advocacy efforts, to restore and reconcile our world. ELCA advocacy works for change in public policy based on the experience of Lutheran ministries, programs and projects around the world and in communities across the United States. They work through political channels on behalf of the biblical values of peacemaking, hospitality to strangers, care for creation and concern for people living in poverty and struggling with hunger and disease. To learn more about the policies ELCA advocacy supports and how you can take action towards supporting them yourself, visit the ELCA Action Center,
