This morning, Friday, Aug. 10, our diocesan Disaster Relief Team, in partnership with Episcopal Relief and Development, met for a call to touch base on both the Mendocino Complex and Carr fires. 

Mendocino Complex Update:

Evacuation orders for the c ity of Lakeport and the surrounding cities, which includes our parish of St. John's and their parishioners, have been lifted. 

 

Local assistance shelters have opened as evacuees settle back into their homes. Our  parishioners at St. John's have joined their Methodist neighbors in manning a table in Lucerne and providing relief to those in need.  Through the generous donations to our Disaster Relief fund, St. John's has received  $5,000 in gift cards for gas and groceries for  distribution as needed.

As recovery continues, volunteers are crucial in ensuring that those who need assistance are taken care of. If you would like to join St. John's, help is needed daily, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please contact the Rev. Mary Taggart via email at [email protected]. 

Carr Fire Update:

Evacuation orders for All Saints' and its surrounding neighborhoods were lifted one week ago, and the All Saints' Drop in Center opened Tuesday, Aug. 7. All Saints' has been providing air conditioning, restrooms, water, respirator masks, respite and prayer to all who have entered their doors. 

As you may know, our 2018 Diocesan Convention is expected to convene Nov. 9-10 in Redding. The Redding Civic Auditorium is safe, as well as the three hotels near the auditorium. Please stay tuned to hear more about the Pre-Convention Gathering, where we will be providing opportunities for fire recovery outreach and healing.
