MIPC Theology Class
Psalm 8:1,3-4
"O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth...
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them?"

The study of theology is our search for an understanding of God, ourselves, and the world we live in. It is our faith seeking understanding. This fall and winter we are hosting two five-week theology courses taught by the Rev. Dr. Shannon Smythe. There will be readings and discussion (but no essay assignments). The hope of this class is that everyone will find a deep conversation and open environment in which to learn about God. It's for those who have never looked at theology and those who read Karl Barth for fun. Please sign-up for the first course online or at the front desk by Sep 10.

Shannon Smythe, is assistant professor of theological studies at Seattle Pacific University and the author of two books. You can learn more about Dr. Smythe here

August 20 - "The Cross and the Lynching Tree"  by James Cone
Rev. Dr. James Cone, who died this spring, was a central figure in the development of black liberation theology in the 1960s and 1970s. This award-winning book explores the intersection of faith, race, and American history. In it, Dr. Cone challenges people to look hard at suffering, oppression and, ultimately, redemption.

Sanctuary Flowers
Each Sunday, congregation members have the opportunity to provide the beauty of flowers to the sanctuary. Many donate to honor loved ones who have passed, celebrate an anniversary or birthday or just because they love seeing flowers at church. Whatever the reason, the thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated. Flowers can come from your garden or a flower shop, whatever works best for you.
Because some of our members and guests are allergic to floral fragrances it is best to plan flowers without fragrances. Thank you.

If you would like to sign up to provide flowers for an upcoming Sunday service or for more information please continue to this  link .
