Professional Adulting Summer Series: Empathy in Action

Bike Share Information Session

The City of Syracuse is partnering with Syracuse Bike Share Committee and Adapt CNY to bring a Bike Share Program to Syracuse - and they're hoping to implement the program by the end of the year! The goal is to create a bike share system that is accessible and inclusive for everyone. You're invited to share your thoughts on how our community can work together to make this program successful throughout the City of Syracuse. There will be a public meeting Tuesday, August 14 at the City Hall Commons Atrium where the community may weigh in and learn more about the exciting partnership and project! Representatives from Gotcha Bike - which was selected to provide the bicycles - will also be in attendance. Gotcha Bike currently operates in 20+ cities across the country.
 
For those who cannot attend the meeting, there is an electronic survey available where you're welcome to share your thoughts. Printed copies are also available upon request. Next Wednesday, Congress is back in session! The Onondaga Historical Association (OHA) is partnering with Willow Rock Brewing Company to re-introduce Congress beer to Syracuse! Sip on history by the pint at the Congress Beer Launch!
There will be live music from Jay Lock and Brian Michael, as the launch coincides with the season finale of the Grill 'n Chill series at Eleven Waters. Summer Film Under the Stars: The Love Bug

Celebrate 50 years of the Everson with classic films from 1968! Bring your blankets, beverages and lawn chairs to enjoy a screening of The Love Bug projected onto the facade of the museum. Watch as a magical car with a mind of its own makes a champion of a down-and-out race car driver.  
*In the event of inclement weather, the film screening will take place inside the Hosmer Theater.

Before the film, enjoy a free docent-led tour of Darryl Hughto's exhibit, From Diamonds to Sailboats, starting at 6:00 pm, or check out the Everson's newest exhibit, UNIQUE, which celebrates the artistic talents of Central New Yorkers living with disabilities. Then, at 7:30 pm, Birdsong Cafe and downtown's own Byblos food trucks will serve delicious treats on the plaza, and the Syracuse City Police Department will host a collaborative mural painting of Herbie Love Bug!

Legendary artist David Byrne will play at the Landmark Theatre this September as part of an acclaimed extensive world tour. A 12-piece band will join Byrne on stage for a choreographed concert as he performs songs from his recently released solo album, American Utopia, along with other classics from his solo career and favorites from his days with Talking Heads.

Syracuse Style is Downtown's premier fashion event, showcasing downtown apparel boutiques and salons with a spectacular runway fashion show! Watch as Walton Street is transformed into an 80-foot lighted runway. Grab a drink or something to eat while you watch models showcase the latest styles from downtown retailers. The event is free and open to the public! There are also VIP ticket opportunities, which will go on sale soon.

44 Block Party

This September, Armory Square will host a special block party in preparation for the largely-anticipated home Syracuse football game against the Florida State Seminoles. The event will feature a main stage at the corner of Walton and South Franklin Streets (map) with live music from UPROOTED, featuring Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root, plus Vacation DAZE and Tim Forbes Music! The Syracuse Marching Band, cheerleaders and Otto the orange will all be in attendance as well. Don't miss University give-a-ways throughout the night and special guest speakers. 

Admission is free and attendees are encouraged to enjoy the show with food and beverage from local bars and restaurants.

The Everson Museum of Art's 50th Anniversary Gala promises to be the cultural event of the year! Pei, the designer of the Everson building, plans to be in attendance, along with notable artists and individuals who have been involved with the Museum over the course of 50 years.

Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival Receives National Recognition
Ranked one of the Top 100 Best Fine Art & Design Shows in the country
 
The AmeriCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival was recently ranked one of the top 100 Best Fine Art & Design Shows in the country by Sunshine Artist! The Syracuse show is only one of two shows in Upstate New York on the list. 

This ranking is generated by artists who attend fine art shows across the country. Each artist is asked to list the 10 most-profitable art shows they exhibited at from the previous year, and the results are tabulated on a weighted scale based on sales.

New Opportunity to Make Music!

Armory Square has a new musical sculpture located near the Onondaga Creekwalk trailhead!  The new installation is a seven-toned steel sound piece that participants can "play" with hammers made from skate wheels. The piece was commissioned by local artist, Michael Giannattasio, and was funded by Tomorrow's Neighbors Today (TNT) Downtown. 
PS: TNT is also providing funding for the 2018 Art in the Windows program!
