Announcing Rev. Eric Heinekamp as our next Transformational General Presbyter and Stated Clerk
In our June Assembly, the Presbytery voted to call Eric Heinekamp, affirming the diligent discernment work of the Transformational Presbyter Nominating Committee and their strong endorsement of Eric for this position. The Committee lifted up Eric's extensive leadership experience in many different realms, his optimism and integrity, and his strong interpersonal skills. You can read more about Eric's background here

Eric's official start date is August 1, 2020, when he will combine his current part-time duties as Stated Clerk with his new responsibilities in a full-time capacity. Rev. Nancy Dolan will continue as Executive Bridge Presbyter through the end of July, and will be working closely with Eric for a smooth transition.

Many thanks to the TPNC for their work, and praise to God for Eric's gifts and service to the Presbytery of Blackhawk!

Shared and Heard at Presbytery...
Several resources were presented at the June 2 meeting that are worth sharing:
  • When asked what could be done to support our neighbors in Puerto Rico, our guest, Vilmarie Cintron-Olivieri suggested contacting the PDA volunteer villages in PR (click "PR"). You may also contact Edwin González-Castillo, Associate for PDA, directly: [email protected]
Christian Educators and Youth Leaders -
You are invited!
The presbytery is offering a Zoom networking and sharing opportunity for Christian Educators and Youth Leaders in Blackhawk Presbytery.

We are planning for Tuesday evening, June 16 at 7 pm. It will be a time to meet others, discuss plans and concerns and offer support to people who share similar interests and responsibilities. The COVID pandemic has shown us the value of idea-sharing, supplied the tools (Zoom) to make that happen without lots of driving, and opened many possibilities.

Please reply if you are interested and share with your CE or Youth Leader. Thanks!
In Memoriam: Rev.Daniel Larsen
Our sympathy to the family of the Rev. Daniel Lee Larsen who passed away peacefully in Marengo, IL on May 3, 2020 at age 83 (see the obituary). He was a member of Blackhawk Presbytery, briefly serving as interim for the Marengo First congregation. He  spent the majority of his career as Pastor for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (now Tree of Life) in Woodstock, IL. A tireless social justice advocate, Rev. Larsen was also memorialized by a friend.
In Memoriam: Quentin Blome
We are sad to announce that on May 19, 2020, at the age of 78, Quentin Willard Blome (Vancouver, Washington) passed away. Quentin was the husband of Rev. Phyllis Mueller, retired minister member of Blackhawk Presbytery. May God's peace be with Phyllis and the family. Please email the office for Phyllis' Washington address or email.

Board of Pensions NEWS
Greetings from the Board of Pensions.

We continue to seek to provide more benefits to more workers serving the PC(USA). Toward that end, please see the documents below, especially the one titled "More Choices and New Benefits for 2021" which describes a new bundling of benefits for Pastors NOT installed and therefore not in the Pastor's Participation plan. We're calling it "Minister's Choice" and it bundles the financial protection of the Pension, Death and Disability, the Employee Assistance Program, and Temporary Disability together for ministers working at least 20 hours, without Medical participation. We're also introducing a Temporary Disability benefit to any Church workers at their employers discretion as well as bundling it into both Pastor's Participation AND the new Minister's Choice.

Blessings,
Rev. Ken GreenChurch Consultant,  Board of Pensions

Our Vision and Values
Grounded in the biblical image for human community, as disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, we challenge and support congregations to be thriving faith communities by facilitating competent leadership and resourcing to energize ministry and mission.
As Christians, guided by the principles of love, trust, open communication, and genuine relationships, we value each other as sisters and brothers in faith in all our varied theological understandings. Therefore, we relish respectful discussions of differing opinions as a necessary part of discerning the will of God.
