Greetings!
School starts soon and so does our involvement with Sam Houston Elementary School!
We have several ways you can get involved:
1. Help the teachers get their classrooms ready on August 9 or August 10 starting at 10:00 a.m.
2. Set up and serve the teacher luncheon on Tuesday, August 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
3. Greet children on their first day of school on Wednesday, August 15, starting at 7:30 a.m.
4. Help with Girls on the Run, a special program that gets 3rd and 4th grade girls moving to improve their health and overall well-being. If you are interested in receiving more information about this program, c

5. Help students grow a garden.
6. Help with monthly student book clubs.

The Gathering Place Celebrates 19 Years
Since August 1999, The Gathering Place ministry has
come together to provide enriching and festive events for those living with memory loss and their families who care for them at home.
TGP began at the original downtown Conroe church location, with guidance and training provided by CarePartners Texas. The ministry started with only 12 members and have now grown to more than 65 members.
Today, more than 50 churches participate across the Houston and Waco area. However, only First Methodist Conroe's TGP and one other group meet twice a month rather than monthly.
Each gathering event consists of fun events with guest performers, lunch, and an opportunity for socializing and connecting.
Dayna Savage currently leads this ministry along with Care Team volunteers. For 18 years, Savage has seen the inspirational relationships that have grown between our amazing care partners and families. She is thankful that FMC has always been able to provide the space and office staff support for programs like TGP.

Asbury Room
Join us at Align, an opportunity for women to grow in spirit, through worship, prayer, and a good word from a speaker. Childcare begins in the Nursery at 6:15 p.m.
This month's speaker is Leah Taylor, Laywoman from Memorial Drive UMC in Houston.
Taylor is a past Conference Lay Leader and worked with the Bishop and Cabinet, building and working toward implementation of a new vision, mission and core values for the Annual Conference. She is a faithful woman of God who shares her understanding of how her life is aligned with God. Come for fellowship, snacks, music, prayer, and a inspiring speaker.

Sunday, August 12
Kids Promotion Sunday
All children ages 3 (as of Sept 1, 2018) through 5th grade will move up to their next grade/class in Kids Worship.
Welcome 6th Graders!
9:30 a.m.
If you have a youth who will be entering the sixth grade this fall, we want to invite them to join us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m., beginning this Sunday, in the Upper Room. This is a special year for our sixth graders because they also begin their study for Confirmation in the spring.
Blessing of the Backpacks
9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Kids, bring your backpacks to Kids Worship. We will have a special backpack blessing during Large Group Time and hand out backpack blessing tags!

Upper Room
We are looking for youth who would be interested in helping lead worship for our Upper Room Sunday Nights. If you sing, play guitar, percussion or piano, come join us!
We'll be eating pizza, playing some games, learning about the purpose of worship, and of course jamming out to some great worship songs, so be sure to bring your instruments.

Disciple I Bible Study Class
Begins Tuesday, August 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Join us every Tuesday as we explore the Bible together. Our first evening together will be an orientation on

Open House Event for Parents
Regardless of what phase a kid is in, we only have 52 weeks with them while they are in this phase. What we do, what we say-they are watching. And they need both of you-parents and Small Group Leaders--intentionally investing in them this year.
When we combine the two biggest influences in a kid or student's life -their parents and their Small Group Leaders-
we can make a bigger impact than we ever could have done on our own.
We can do so much more together, and that's why we've set aside the time to not just know OF each other, but to actually KNOW each other.
Join us for a time to get to know your kid's Small Group Leader and discover how we can do more together in the lives of our kids and students.

FMC Church Camping Trip
September 21 through September 23
Huntsville State Park
First Methodist Conroe invites you and your family to go camping for a weekend!
This is a great opportunity for fellowship and to enjoy the great outdoors with other families from the church. The cost per campsite is $20 and there is a $5 entrance fee.
Campsites have water and 20/30/50-amp electric hookup. We will have activities for kids planned on Saturday morning, a potluck on Saturday night, and a short worship service on Sunday morning. We have a limited number of campsites, so please reserve your spot ASAP.
