Father Joe Pereira has been a direct student of B.K.S. Iyengar since 1968. He is a renowned Sr. Iyengar yoga teacher as well as a Diocesan priest belonging to the Archdiocese of Bombay. He has worked very closely with  Mother Teresa as well. Inspired by both Mother Teresa and B.K.S. Iyengar, Father Joe combined these two passions and developed the Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga, established in 1981, a recovery program for the chemically dependent which has grown exponentially over the years. Father Joe holds several degrees; he has been recognized by the government of India for his distinguished contributions and service in his field, and has received numerous awards including the International Yoga Journal Karmayogi of the Year Award in 2003.

Father Joe's workshops are based on the Iyengar yoga traditions of meditation, pranayama and alignment.
He uses his asana sequences with the integration of the twelve step program to bring awareness and light to his students.
Inspirational in nature, his workshops are challenging and draw students to look deeply within their yoga practice.

Punchcard Makeover

Dear Members:
Beginning this September, all newly purchased Punch Cards will have a new look with a grid on the back.

The current 10 class punch card will be renamed 15 Hour Punch Card.
The current 20 class punch card will be renamed 30 Hour Punch Card.

The reason for the change to the Punch Cards is to allow equitable billing for 1 hour, 1.5 hour, and 2 hour classes. Each space in the grid is worth 30 minutes. The teacher will initial the number of spaces equivalent to the length of the class taught. The price of each Punch Card remains the same. For students attending 1.5 hour classes, there is no change in the number of classes received with each card (10 classes with the 15 hour card and 20 classes with the 30 hour card).

* All previously purchased punchcards will be honoured until they expire.
Tracy's Yoga retreat with Deborah

Currently Tracy is on a yoga retreat at Yogaview in Nova Scotia called Pose and Repose. Yogaview is operated by Deborah Lomond and her husband, David Eeles. They were founding members of KYH who worked tirelessly with Margaret Lunam and the Yoga House Community to help create this wonderful centre for Iyengar Yoga. Deborah was KYH's main teacher and teacher trainer until her move to Nova Scotia five years ago.

Now Tracy is enjoying her teachings once again. She wrote:
they begin the day with one hour of pranayama followed by a short break then a two and a half hour asana class in which Deborah guides us in Asana with precision, depth and intensity. Her teaching is focused, intelligent and reflective. She weaves in Yoga philosophy, working with our minds as much as our body. Today (Thursday) we have an added two hour Restorative class from 4-6 and Friday night an Indian feast for the 22 students from all parts of Canada to socialize and mix.

The ocean here at the Northumberland Strait is very warm so we have been enjoying going for afternoon swims to cool off or just a nice relaxing afternoon to nap or read with time to absorb the teachings from the morning.  It's been a wonderful trip to the East Coast so far with this retreat at Yogaview with Deborah as the highlight for sure!

We have a few items left behind at the Kelowna Yoga House who are still looking for their owner. If you are still missing a leather jacket or a fossil watch please talk to your teacher!  Also we have two pot lids, probably left from the assessment weekend.
And check our lost and found bin at the front entrance just in case you left a water bottle or other item behind!
