Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue                December 2017

Live.  Love.  Rescue.

LIVE.  LOVE.  RESCUE.

Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue is a non-profit, completely volunteer-driven organization dedicated  to saving and re-homing Bulldogs with loving families.

Hundreds of Bulldogs are lost, abandoned, taken to animal shelters, or surrende red to rescue every year. Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue accepts Bulldogs whose owners can no longer keep them, and retrieves Bulldogs from shelters and undesirable situations. Our Bulldogs are placed in suitable homes as soon as reasonably possible.

Meet Forrest Bondurant

If you've seen the movie Lawless, then you will know his character: Forrest Bondurant is fearless, a risk taker and some may say an outlaw. But this Forrest is just a gentle giant of a Bulldog! Forrest knows he is one hot mess now, but his healing has begun and better days are ahead of him.

Forrest wants you to know that his surrendering family was loving, kind, and had two small girls whom he adored.

There were 9 puppies in Forrest's litter and as they grew, they all looked like him, covered in demodectic mange. Forrest's mother even had it, and the breeder said, "She is missing hair from her puppies nibbling on her."

Forrest's mother knew she was in over her head with his condition. The medication made him throw up, he scratched until he bled and he cried in his sleep. We parted ways with the mom saying, "I loved you enough, Forrest, to let you go get the help you need. You were always the Bulldog of my dreams."

In his first two days at the vet, he had two baths, his skin scraped and lots of dead skin removed. He is not itching at all. He is, however, continuing to vomit, so the vet is starting him on a food for sensitive stomachs. His scrapes for demodex came back negative. Evidently, the medicine his owners were giving him took care of that. He still has some infection that needs to be handled, and he is still in some discomfort, but nothing like the pain he was in.

He will be getting baths three times a week for the next few weeks. He still needs to be neutered when he gets better. Dr. Larsen expects he will stay at the clinic for about a month before he goes to a foster home.

He is such a sweet boy. When you sit with him, all he wants to do is climb up in your lap and snuggle with you. He will make someone a great dog once we can make him healthy.

Stay tuned to watch Forrest's journey. We're going to do all we can to get him healthy!

A Fletcher Update!

Fletcher entered into rescue 10 months ago as a hairless wonder. We have tried so many things to help him. He has been on so many rounds of antibiotics and allergy medications. Many times it has been a step forward, only to retreat even further back.

A few months ago several plugs of ski n were taken and sent off for analysis. Some of his hair follicles appears dead and may never produce hair.

We recently sent him to a pet dermatologist for a complete workup. The doctor changed some medications and tried some new ones. Fletcher's skin has improved and his itching is gone along with all the inflammation. The next step was a skin-pick test for allergens. He is highly allergic to several kinds of local grasses, weeds and trees. He is also allergic to cat dander. So a special serum was mixed based on all his allergies and he now begins regular allergy shots. We hope within 6-8 weeks to be able to take him off Apoquel, and that in time the shots will totally control his allergies.

Please cross your fingers and say a prayer for this precious boy. It is his time to shine! And if you don't mind a few thin or hairless spots on your Bulldog, please consider adopting Fletcher and giving him the loving forever home he deserves.

Consider Becoming a Foster Family

Our ability to rescue dogs from undesirable conditions is limited by the foster homes available. We always need more caring homes in the metroplex to help these precious dogs begin a new life. For more information on how you can get involved, visit our Volunteer page on our website.
