Open Door Church's Worship & Celebration!

For the first time ever, all six Open Door Churches will be gathering together for a combined worship experience, celebrating our community, and sharing a potluck picnic at the amphitheater  at Riverfront Park! Come enjoy an exciting day celebrating being in ministry together!

Worship Music
Together, we'll celebrate with worship music led by musicians from Salem First, Keizer Clear Lake, and Morningside who will be playing throughout worship and then we'll have music while we enjoy lunch as well!

Speaker - Leroy Barber
Leroy Barber, a church leader, will be sharing a special message at our worship gathering. Leroy is currently the Executive Director of The Voices Project and Holla Mentors, organizations committed to supporting and developing leaders of color. He is the author of New Neighbor: An Invitation to Join Beloved Community, Everyday Missions: How Ordinary People Can Change the World, Red, Brown, Yellow, Black, White: Who's More Precious in God's Sight?, and recently released, Embrace: God's Radical Shalom for a Divided World.

Children's Activities
Anselmo from Las Naciones will be making balloon animals for the kids along with other children's activities we'll be enjoying.

Potluck Picnic!
Let's share lunch! After our worship, we'll be sharing a potluck lunch! Please bring a dish along with a label of the ingredients your dish contains in consideration for those of us with allergies. There will even be a special Mexican food section! We'll be providing cake for us all to enjoy along with all the plates, silverware, and ice water we'll need.

Transportation and Accessibility
You can park in one of the park's parking lots or walk to the amphitheater from downtown.

If you have accessibility issues, meet at Salem First's parking lot behind the church and a van will take you over to the park where a golf cart will take you the rest of the way. You can also drop off your loved ones at the parking lot and we'll take them to the amphitheater from there.

No other services will be held
All Open Door Churches will be participating so no services will be held at any of the churches.

Fall Discipleship Classes Begin Soon!

Plans are coming together for this fall's discipleship classes. The organizers are asking for people to let them know when you are interested in joining a group (day of the week and time) and, choosing from a list of possible books to study, which would you be interested in studying?

Below is a link to a copy of the Group Option form for your consideration. Either print out this form and turn it into Wendy at church this Sunday or pick up a form from the bulletin board in the hallway on Sunday, under the Fall Discipleship Classes Registration sign.

If you prefer, an online version of the group options form is available at:
Do you have any work clothes?

The people at Las Naciones are in need of work clothes. Do you have any you aren't using or could you buy some for someone who needs them? When buying shirts, long sleeves are especially helpful.

Please bring all clothes to Las Naciones for distribution.

Open Door Churches July Board Meeting Notes
The Open Door Churches Board meeting was held at First UMC on Monday July 23rd.
  • Pastor Dan Pitney gave an overview of the things happening at First UMC. Coming soon: Claremont Seminary, which will be housed in the bottom floor at MICAH.
  • The All-Church Worship & Celebration event is scheduled for September 9th at Riverfront Park in the amphitheater. The Message will be given by LeRoy Barber. Continuing to work on the transportation issues.
  • Pastor Wendy Woodworth talked about the New People/New Places for the Open Door Churches that was part of our discussion from the February Planning Retreat. There are three categories that fall under this heading: New Congregation, New Worshiping Community (the center is worship) and New Faith Community (the center is faith, but is not an organized worship experience). Las Naciones falls in the first two categories. It is processing towards a chartered congregation and they worship regularly on Sunday. The Young Adult Ministry is a New Faith Community.
  • A discussion about Communication for the Open Door Churches. The new web page is up and functioning. There are numerous newsletters available online. There are problems for getting the information to those that do not have internet.
  • The budget and Stewardship campaign will be discussed at the next meeting
  • There was a discussion about the worship times, including the too early time at Trinity UMC. Morningside is still struggling with a time for worship if Trinity changes to 9:30 a.m.
  • Englewood said that to help Trinity, they will stop worshiping as a standard worship experience in September. They will instead do a fellowship time that may include a Bible study. They are looking to close by the end of December.
  • We need to continue to claim and support Las Naciones and the Young Adult Ministry. Las Naciones needs help with the Thursday evening Service/Dinner. There is also a need for gently used or new clothing for people to wear to work.
