Backpack Fund

Once again, we are designating August as our month to donate to
our backpack fund. Last year we raised over $2500.00 and hope we can do it again this ye ar. The backpack costs are approximately  $9000.00/year to provide weekend food for 50 kids during the school year. Any contributions are a blessing in helping to keep this program on going. Please donate through First Christian Church, designating your contributions for the backpack fund.

Bob Parvin

Bob Parvin said "thank you for the prayers everyone," he is doing much better and recovering well.

Youth Happenings!

Hello all and Happy August!

In July, we had a wonderful time at Christmount camp
volunteering at different organizations around Asheville. We got to work in a community garden, serve food and commune with Asheville's underserved populations, and help on a farm in West Asheville.

We also shared ice cream, scripture, and music with our FCC family at our youth-led worship service on July 25th.

August 23rd, we will head to Carowinds  for a time of
fellowship and fun.

On Wednesday nights, we will be exploring the theme of
Suffering Servitude. The Gospel of Mark presents Jesus as the Suffering Servant, and we will look at four stories from Isaiah and Mark in which God reveals how we should react to
suffering.

We will explore how the image of suffering servitude from Isaiah 53 was an image of hope for the People of Israel. Then, stories of The Gerasene
Demoniac (Mark 5), Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14), and Jesus' death on the cross (Mark 15) give us stark
images of suffering that
encourage us to address
suffering and injustice in our own contexts.

We will also be doing a back to school celebration at the end of August!

Peace,
Kaitlin Mundy

My Friends!
The month of August is here and Summer will soon become Fall. Do food needs change? Not really. Hunger lasts all year long. We will be collecting SOUP of any kind for this month. There are so many different varieties available and most are inexpensive. Next time you are at your local grocery or "dollar" store, pick up a few cans to share. Let's put a "jump" on those cooler days to follow. Place your items in the large white bin in the Education Foyer.

Listen to Sermons Online

You can listen to Ken Massey's sermons online here: www.sermoncloud.com/firstchristian. A big thanks to Andy Askew for recording the sermon audio every Sunday!
Samaritan Ministries

The shelter has a year-round list of needs that are always appreciated. They especially have shortages of men's deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, and socks.  Food items are canned meats and #10 size canned fruits, vegetables and applesauce. Please place your items next to the white bin in the foyer outside the office or in the church office.
