Youth Happenings!
Hello all and Happy August!
In July, we had a wonderful time at Christmount camp
volunteering at different organizations around Asheville. We got to work in a community garden, serve food and commune with Asheville's underserved populations, and help on a farm in West Asheville.
We also shared ice cream, scripture, and music with our FCC family at our youth-led worship service on July 25th.
August 23rd, we will head to Carowinds for a time of
fellowship and fun.
On Wednesday nights, we will be exploring the theme of
Suffering Servitude. The Gospel of Mark presents Jesus as the Suffering Servant, and we will look at four stories from Isaiah and Mark in which God reveals how we should react to
suffering.
We will explore how the image of suffering servitude from Isaiah 53 was an image of hope for the People of Israel. Then, stories of The Gerasene
Demoniac (Mark 5), Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14), and Jesus' death on the cross (Mark 15) give us stark
images of suffering that
encourage us to address
suffering and injustice in our own contexts.
We will also be doing a back to school celebration at the end of August!
Peace,
Kaitlin Mundy
