All Liberty Lightning teammates competed commendably, with many of our swimmers dropping their times significantly throughout the season. Congratulations to the team and their coaches for a very successful season!

Surveys will be sent via email. We welcome and encourage input from our Liberty Lightning families on their experiences this season.

Food Combinations Can Improve Nutrient Absorption
from the Desk of Susan Cutshaw M.S., Nutritionist

Nutritionists suggest consuming certain foods at the same meal may improve the ability to absorb more of their nutrients or phytochemicals such as the lycopene in tomatoes and the pterostilbene in blueberries.  Here are four easy combinations.
  • Plant based iron and vitamin C - adding a dash of lemon or orange slices to a spinach salad improves the digestibility of the iron in spinach.
  • Tomatoes and olive oil - pairing slightly cooked tomatoes with olive oil and or broccoli enhances the absorption of lycopene, an antioxidant found in tomatoes. Lycopene may play a role in preventing prostate cancer.

  • Turmeric and black pepper - Consuming black pepper with turmeric enhances turmeric anti-inflammatory properties which can alleviate arthritis symptoms and improve kidney health.
Calcium and vitamin D -  Ginger Hultin, RD, says that combining these two increases absorption of calcium in the intestines, helping our bones stay healthy. Eating salmon can accomplish this mission.
