On June 4, we began work on the widening of Branch Hill-Guinea Pike from Bridle Path Lane to Jer-Les Drive. The first phase of the project was completed on Friday, July 20.  

Although our original schedule called for completion of the second phase of work by Aug. 15, weather and unexpected utility issues have extended the length of time crews need to safely open Branch Hill-Guinea Pike to two-way traffic. As a result, the current road closure on the southern end of Branch Hill-Guinea Pike and Weber Road will remain in place through Saturday, Sept. 15.

We are sensitive to the start of the new school year and recognize the inconvenience this temporary traffic pattern will cause during the first few weeks of school. We are in close contact with leaders at Boyd E. Smith Elementary School in order to maintain access for parents, students and staff. Access to Boyd E. Smith will be open as usual south of the project. Drivers will be able to reach Jer-Les Drive from the south end of Branch Hill-Guinea Pike via SR 28.

Once completed, a center turn lane will support smoother travel on Branch Hill-Guinea Pike and help reduce potential accidents by separating turning traffic from through traffic. The addition of a new sidewalk will provide safer pedestrian access in the area, and drainage improvements will enhance stormwater management along the road and in surrounding subdivisions.
