Dear Friends,
Today marks the celebration of
Juneteenth
, which commemorates June 19, 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Texas that famously stated, “In accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free”.
It has been 155 years since General Granger read the orders that ushered in the post-slavery era. However, Community Teamwork recognizes that although slavery ended in 1865, enslavement prevails today by means of systematic racism and the criminalization of the Black and African American community.
Today, we celebrate the independence of the Black community in the United States. Today, we celebrate Blackness, Black excellence, the Black Community’s strength and perseverance, and the achievements of Black individuals.
Please note, in order to commemorate, reflect and celebrate Juneteenth, Community Teamwork will be closing our offices at noon today.
Tomorrow and thereafter, we continue the fight for racial equity and inclusion in our community, with our community.
We wish you continued health and peace,
