Multnomah County Auditor Reviews Eagle Creek Fire Response
On Thursday, July 26, the
Multnomah County Auditor's Office
presented their findings of the Eagle Creek Fire Response Operations to the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners. This Audit gathered information through digital surveys, in-person interviews, and by a review of numerous plans and procedures provided to them by the Office of Emergency Management. The audit provided several recommendations for improvement and complimented the office on numerous occasions. The Auditor stated the Emergency Management Office filled their role well, and “Many who participated in the EOC were impressed with the Office’s leadership, effort, and proactive approach.” To see specific findings from the Audit and how the Office responded, please review the two documents below:

Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program
The Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP) is a state of Oregon competitive grant program that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public buildings, particularly public schools and emergency services facilities. Public K‐12 school districts, community colleges, and education service districts are eligible for the grant program. For emergency services facilities, the emphasis is on first responder buildings. A new application round began July 2, 2018, and
closes November 16, 2018, at 5:00 pm. There will be $75 million for school projects and $10 million for emergency service projects. The maximum award for the seismic program has been updated to $2.5 million per building. For more information and to apply, please click

MCEM's SummerWorks intern!
Brandon is interning as an emergency management specialist at the Multnomah County Office of Emergency Management. As an emergency management specialist, Brandon helps in staff projects and coordinates with fellow interns. Before working as an intern, Brandon worked as an apprentice mechanic and a busser at a restaurant. He is also part of an organization called YEJA which advocates for free bus passes for students in the East Portland area. Brandon hopes to gain insight on how public and private offices function out of the internship.

- August 11, St Helens, OR. Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for Emergency Management Course. This course provides an overview of the technology, regulation and applications of drones. Presentations in the morning will be followed by demonstrations and flight training in the afternoon. The course is for Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization (RDPO) and Northwest Area Committee (NWAC) members to assist in integrating drones into disaster preparedness, emergency management, recovery, and post-disaster planning. This course will prepare individuals who are interested in performing volunteer operations for the county during local emergencies or disasters for being deployed by the Multnomah County Office of Emergency Management. Students will build an understanding of emergency management operations, the Incident Command System (ICS), disaster environments, expectations of disaster service workers, and their safety and well-being during deployment.
