Town Hall Postponed & Upcoming March in Rogers Park
When we returned from session, we were eager to share the details of the emergency session and FY21 budget with our constituents. We scheduled an electronic town hall for this Monday, June 8 in the evening, before the events of the last two weeks and the incredibly necessary discussions of institutional racism and police brutality that must continue. Neighborhoods are still reeling from the impact of the protests and people are still rightly taking to the streets. This Monday, the Rogers Park Community will be coming together to march from Willye White Park to Welles Park (flyer below). As a result, we’ve decided to postpone this Monday’s town hall meeting so our neighbors can participate in the march if they choose.

Each of us is committed to the work ahead in reforming our justice system and dismantling the layers of harm of systemic racism, but we also acknowledge that our voices must be in support and amplification of the voices of our colleagues in the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus. We expect to reschedule the town hall soon with a new agenda of reviewing possible legislative action on police reform, restoration of communities damaged by unrest, reinvestment in the redevelopment of Black and Brown Communities as well as addressing the underlying racial biases that plague our criminal justice system. In the meantime, we encourage anyone who is participating in protests to remember that COVID-19 remains a risk and to wear face coverings and be as mindful of social distancing as possible. After being part of large group gatherings like marches or protests, please follow CDC guidance and observe a 14 day self isolation period, especially if you have close contact with people who are considered especially vulnerable to the virus. Testing availability has increased now so anyone who would like to be tested after participating in large group activities can do so, but keep in mind that there still needs to be a period of self isolation before testing.
