Conferences, Classes and Creative Opportunities
Tedi R. Parsons will lead attendees in open dialogue about the importance of having a diverse board of directors and why this is critical to both securing funding/grants and "doing the right thing" in a smARTS workshop entitled "How to Diversify Your Board." Attendees will go through the five essential strategies needed to create a diverse board and/or committee. This workshop will take place Aug. 15.
Habitat for Humanity Young Professionals need your expertise! Give new life to an item from the Habitat Restore, and your artwork will be auctioned to support Habi-Kids Build Club.
Choose from doors, lamps, cabinets and more! Submissions must be functional pieces, and artists receive a portion of the sale of their work. Go to the website to fill out an entry form.
Join the REO Town Art Attack on Aug. 25. For this year's festival, they're taking to the streets and have a great deal more vendor space available. To sign up, submit your business' name, contact info and sample of your work in a direct email to the coordinator. Vendor booths require a $25 registration fee.
Now through Aug. 31 , Capital Area District Libraries wants you to submit your version of the song "Right Here" by Taylor Taylor for a chance to perform during next year's Common Ground Music Festival and receive a $500 Marshall Music Gift Card. This
contest is open to solo singers, groups and bands.
There will also be prizes for contestants finishing in second and third place.
Nicolas V. Sanchez got his start as an art student at Lansing Community College. Sanchez wishes to support talented and ambitious art students at LCC with a $1,000 scholarship and an opportunity to enter into a mentorship with him. This scholarship hopes to provide an opportunity to further a young artist's development through life experiences and art education. For more information contact the program coordinator directly.

Michigan Made: 2018 Holiday Exhibit

Michigan Made will be seeking contemporary fine art, inspired modern craft and items designed by Michigan makers!
The Michigan Made: 2018 Holiday Exhibition will feature artworks that range from fine art to small gifts including jewelry, paintings, pottery, leather goods, metal work, paper products, glass works, woodworking, and more. The exhibition will be co-curated by Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center's Exhibitions & Gallery Sales Director Katrina M. Daniels.
The Michigan Made: 2018 Holiday Exhibition is open to all artists over 18 years of age that have a residence in Michigan. All artwork must be original and of the artist's own creation. Original artworks in any media will be considered. Artwork does NOT have to be holiday themed. All artwork must have been created within the last three years and meet the gallery's Framing and Presentation Guidelines.
Entries should be made online only. Submissions must accurately represent the body of work that will be displayed in the Holiday Exhibition.
