Organ Update

Above is a picture of Bruce Gale, our Minister of Music, with our new Allen Organ at the factory in Pennsylvania!  Work on removing our current organ will begin next week.  Our new organ is currently scheduled to be installed on October 23rd.  Until then, we will be using our piano for worship.  Thanks to everyone who made commitments to make this new organ a reality.  Additional payments to Allen Organ are coming due over the next months, so we invite you to fulfill any outstanding pledge commitments as soon as possible.  Our hope is to feature the new organ at Christmas and then to have a celebratory concert in the new year.  If you have any questions about the organ, please feel free to speak with Bruce Gale or Carolyn Bennett, who chaired our Organ Committee. Questions about pledge commitments can be directed to Joan Cordier our Assistant Treasurer.

"Speaking Through Stories - Who Are Refugees?"

I am pleased to announce the release of my mini-documentary sharing the story of refugees and our own Karahja family.  I hope you will watch my show "Speaking Through Stories" and this special segment "Who Are Refugees?"! I am so grateful  to the Karahja's for their vulnerability, openness, and compassion throughout this whole process... they have allowed me to share difficult parts of their journey and huge parts of who they are in order to hopefully touch people in some way and highlight our shared humanity above all. I hope that this does their story justice and is a true testament to their resiliency and kindness, which I have known for myself to be extremely powerful.

You can watch the segment on the Community Voice Channel at the following times:

Speaking Through Stories: Who Are Refugees

August 8th: 4:30pm
August 12th: 8:00pm
August 14th: 12:30pm
August 21st: 3:00pm
August 24th: 6:30pm
August 30th: 11:30am

You can also access the story "ON DEMAND" by visiting http://www.cvcct.org/on-demand.html and typing in "Speaking Through Stories" on the search bar.

Please note this is a personal opinion piece. As you all know I believe in bipartisan, fair information that contains both sides, and this piece does present all verified facts that I researched. Yet, it also emphasizes the Karahja's perspective and I couldn't help but get emotional throughout the process due to my close relationship with the family and knowing firsthand about who they are.

Thank you for all your support,
Skylar Haines
