John & Autumn Vernon are sailing now aboard "Peace Out" Lagoon 450 and contributing to our group to assist future charter guests and sailors on where and what to do in BVI.  Operation Sail It Forward is again in motion, second time this month!  Read about navigating into Anegada, Spanish Town, Baths, Jost Van Dyke and more...

Aka: Capt Rotten

Capt Rotten here, I was going to post some navigation updates last night. Then I went ashore at Foxy's for "just one drink" at 6:30pm and came back to the boat at 11pm. The Irma punch is my new favorite, be warned though it's definitely
a cat 5 drink.

OK some updates for sailors:Spanish Town, Baths, Fuel, Norman Island, Nanny Cay

Spanish Town: the marina has a dock open, the one directly opposite the fuel dock. Many slips still have sunken boats in them, and some of them have no visible structure above the water line. So if y ou see an "empty slip" be sure check under the water!!! Fuel dock is also open but you have to navigate an upside down cat to get to it and also avoid the partially sunken dingy. We decided against using the fuel. Mooring balls just north of the entrance to the marina are in place, about 10 of them but only ~ 4 have a painter. We took one of those for our overnight rather than stay on the dock. Assure, Snapper bar right in the Marina is open, Bath and Turtle (now located 5-10 minute walk along the road head north) and serving a range of good food.

The Baths: National park moorings are all in place and look good. We had no problem finding one . Both routes to the top of the baths are fully cleared. Baths are beautiful, some beach erosion at Devils Bay. The Top of Baths restaurant and gift shops are fully repaired and open, even the pool. Hard to believe they got hit by a cat 5 just three months ago.

Norman Island: mooring field is intact, you all know where Willy T is by now (just in case- it's on the beach). Pirates making good progress, not open yet but I would guess they could have the bar open (minimally) in a week or 2.

Nanny Cay : fuel dock is open (fuel, water, ice) and Rite grocery store is also open. Be prepared to be patient- there are very few boats on the water right now but with so few fully functional service docks open we had to wait behind the boat in front of us.

OK, enough for now. Time for me to swim in for a cocktail at Hendo's Hideout. I think you can tell from wife's photo post they we are spending a couple of days around JVD. I'll post updates tomorrow, depending on how many painkillers I have.

Please read more updates in our facebook group. We have ore posts but too many to list.

Some tips from our first couple of days posted by John Vernon

Anegada, Wonky Dog, North sound, Leverick, West Dog and diving

-Sailing:Got off the dock at 10am on Sunday and arrived Anegada at ~ 2:30 for lobster fest.
My main message here is that Irma did not damage the ocean or the sailing winds. Awesome sailing!!! And Anegada is open, we drank at Wonky Dog, Anegada Reef hotel, Cow Wreck beach, Potters by the sea and ate BBQ at Potters. yeah, Potters and everywhere else ran out of lobster. Cow Wreck is serving lunch everyday.

- NOTE!! Last green channel marker entering the mooring field at Anegada is missing. When you pass the last pair of green and red cans make sure you close distance between that point an then end of the ferry dock before turning to port. Close about 40% of that distance and use caution.

- West Dog and diving: all mooring balls are in place and in good condition. The chimney is still the chimney and our snorkelers were lucky enough to see a nurse shark.

- North Sound, so much to do . Docks at Leverick Bay are open, no electric, no water, no fuel. However, Nick has this place coming back quick. The most active reconstruction we've seen so far. The bar, cafe and grocery store are open. This place is coming back fast. They have already laid new water pipes to dock and slips, power cables being run. Fair enough, more stuff to do before it's all functioning but they are moving fast. And serving rum drinks while you wait

- hoping to connect with out contact for volunteer activity tomorrow. Phone lines seem to be down right now so hopefully we'll have better luck connecting with her the morning.

Arrrgghh!
