Take Action During the August Recess to Support the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act
As you may know, VBCF is working with like-minded organizations across the country, through the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) to enact legislation that would waive the 24-month waiting period for Medicare eligibility and the 5-month waiting period for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits for individuals with metastatic breast cancer.

The median life expectancy for patients with metastatic breast cancer is just 26 months, so these waiting periods create an undue burden on the patient and their families trying to receive timely access to quality health care services.

H.R. 6114, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act, was introduced in June with  35 original cosponsors and is now up to 45. However,
no Virginia Representatives have yet signed on to support this bill.

VBCF has contacted all members of our Virginia congressional delegation regarding this bill and urge you to contact your Representative today to ask him/her to support this bill.

Please review the NBCC Action alert below and click on the "list of actions" link to get more information and tools for taking action.  Thank you in advance!

A total of 45 Representatives  have  cosponsored  to date. But there is more work to do.  The goal is to have 100 cosponsors by the end of September.

NBCC has developed a list of actions  you can take to help us reach that goal.

On this page, we have also included a sample letter to the editor and a social media guide.

As always, thank you for your important advocacy on behalf of the National Breast Cancer Coalition and our mission to end breast cancer!
