Greetings, Live Oak Owls!
This week’s
GHLO 101 module, Curriculum and Pedagogy
, comes at an especially important moment. With so much of the nation’s attention rightly focused on the health and safety of our families, it is easy to lose sight of the purpose of education. Socrates reminds us that “education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” These ancient words of wisdom are no less true today than they were in the 5
th
century B.C. At Great Hearts, we are committed to kindling the hearts and minds of our students in their pursuit of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
In this module we take a moment to explore the depth, beauty, and promise of a classical liberal arts education—one that has stood the test of time and enriches the lives of those who are blessed to receive it. The ideas and works we study have endured through the centuries. This year will certainly bring challenges as together we adapt to the contingencies presented by COVID, but Great Hearts Live Oak remains clear-eyed: we are committed to delivering a public, high-quality, classical liberal arts education to your children.
May you soar on wings of wisdom and strength,
Headmaster Audelo
