Father's Day - "Walk Like You Got Somewhere to Go"
My father died when I was sixteen, so for me the parental voice resounding through the title of today's sermon, more often than not, belonged to my mother. I've made my dad up by "self-parenting": remembering, retelling, and applying stories about my father to my own growing up, and my own experience of parenting.

Erika Reif,  Director of Lifespan Faith Development

We are excited to be offering another opportunity for formal and informal leaders at FUUSB (or those who wish to be) to take part in this five-session workshop, designed and delivered by Sarah Russell, who has distilled many years of experience in corporate training down to five areas for congregational leadership:
  • Running Effective Meetings
  • Active Listening AND Giving and Receiving Feedback
  • Myers Briggs Temperament Inventory
  • Conflict Resolution and Change Management
  • Volunteerism and Strengths
The workshops will be offered on Tuesday evenings, 5:30-7:30, starting June 23, registration link here,
or Thursday mornings from 9-11, starting July 23,

Please contact Erika Reif or Sarah Russell with any questions.

The Black Heritage of Burlington
Linda Cooper

Your Racial Justice Team brings you a Walking Tour: The Black Heritage of Burlington, Saturday, June 27, 10:30 a.m.-noon. Take a walk along Archibald Street and Elmwood Avenue with historian Elise Guyette to discover some of the African American history of the Old North End. As we walk and talk, we will encounter a former black church, a black-owned grocery store, the former home of black barbers who worked on Church Street, a hotel that was once in the "Green Book" and more. Meet at the George and Elaine Little Park on the corner of North Winooski and Archibald. Elise Guyette is author of Discovering Black Vermont: African American Farmers in Hinesburg, 1790-1890.

Please register at this linkWe are limiting this event to the first 20 who sign up, with a minimum age of 18, and ask that you bring some funds for a donation to our walk leader. We also ask that you wear a facial mask and maintain social distance throughout the event.

The Event Formerly Known as the 4th of July Community BBQ
Zoe Hart

Planning for the 4th of July Free Lunch continues. While we don't have a detailed volunteer plan yet, I can tell you now that we will need volunteers! Just to get you thinking about it, here are some of the types of volunteers we'll be looking for: Shoppers to help buy supplies (we'll give you a list and a gift card or reimburse you for the cost) the week before the 4th. Food prep volunteers to prepare lunch bags the day before and make sandwiches the morning of the event. Greeters and food servers to distribute bagged lunches to guests. Look for a volunteer sign-up sheet in the coming weeks.

Are you a face mask maker? We would like to have face masks to give out to anyone coming for lunch who doesn't have a mask. If you're able to make and donate some face masks, notify Zoe at [email protected] and we'll make arrangements to get them.

Help End ICE's "Binary Choice" Policy
Kim Watkin

The Immigration Justice Team would like to encourage people to help with an effort to end the practice of "binary choice" in the release of children from ICE detention centers. Here is the BACKGROUND information to the "binary choice" policy and the ACTION STEPS to help end this policy. The action steps include emails or phone calls to our representatives and ICE officials based on the amount of time you can spend on this effort. Any questions, please contact Carolyn Smiles at [email protected].

Reminder: Email Scams
Hello Everyone,

In times like these, when people are most vulnerable, scammers crawl out of the woodwork. Recently many of you may have received suspicious emails seeming to come from Rev. Tricia. One of the emails had a subject line of "Blessings." These emails were indeed scams. The email address was not Rev. Tricia's email address (her actual address is  [email protected]).

Please know this: neither Rev Tricia, nor any staff member of  FUUSB, will ever send you an email asking for assistance in this way. We will not ask you to buy a gift card or wire us money; we just won't do that.

So please just hit delete when you see an email like this.  Do not respond in any way. No need to notify us, because we've probably already seen it. We  encourage you to report these messages to the Attorney General's office - those reports can only come from people who receive the scam emails.

Also, your  FUUSB staff is working hard to provide you with online worship and many ways to stay connected during this time. We're trying to get the word out in as many different ways as possible. If you know of someone who does not have any internet connection to the Society, please give them a call and let them know what's going on. Give them some connection to their  FUUSB family.

Taking care of each other and our community!

Christina Fulton,  Director of Operations & Finance
