Practice of the Week: Don't Throw the Second Dart. Some physical and mental pain is inevitable. What all of us know how to do -- by virtue of being UUs who gather week after to week to do it -- is make community. It turns out that the thing we have been practicing and getting good at is the very thing that the world most desperately...READ MORE

Share the Plate Follow Up: Community Housing Innovations

From Alexander H. Roberts, Exec. Dir of CHI, our June plate share recipient: "I was surprised and delighted to open the mail and find a donation from your congregation for June 2018. It comes at a difficult time for my agency and was personally uplifting. When I spoke to the congregation last fall, I had not known that the state would turn down our application for funding for a 42-unit seniors development in Buchanan, NY, which is quite discouraging not just that it cost $400,000 to get approved after a bruising fight with the village, but that the state has changed its priorities so that it is only approving three or four seniors projects in the whole state. This, as well as changes in HUD funding for supportive housing, have caused deficits for CHI that I have faith we will address. But please tell your congregation that expressions of support such theirs mean so much."

Your Moment of Zen: Can't Have That. That evening Raven took her perch and said to the assembly, "Grandma came to see me today. She held out her stick and asked me what it was. I went to take it in my talons, but she pulled it away and said, 'It's mine. You can't have it.' How would you respond if she asked you what it...READ MORE
