Arvid Dennis "Denny" Easterday
, 76, of Galion, Ohio, passed away following an extended illness on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at home, surrounded by his loving family.   Denny lived his life to serve the Lord, his country and others. He was well known for serving on the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail and as a Deacon, Elder, and Treasurer for the Community Christian Church.

Born September 24, 1941, in Wadsworth,  he was the son of the late Robert Glenn and Evelyn Irene (Watts) Easterday.   He married Catherine M. "Cassie" (Swain) Easterday on June 21, 1969,  and they enjoyed 49 years together.

Denny was a graduate of Wadsworth High School in 1959, was awarded an Associate's Degree with distinction in Industrial Technology at the University of Akron. and graduated from Capital University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.   Denny served with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and worked for over 38 years as an engineer at Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton.  He was an active member of Community Christian Church in Galion where he served as an Elder, and previously a 51 year member of First Christian Church in Wadsworth. 

Denny was a member of the American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion, serving as post Chaplain for eight years.   He was president of the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail which he formed to combine smaller units.  Denny marched in many parades including Come Home to Galion, Memorial Day parades in Galion and Iberia, Crestline Harvest Festival, and the Bratwurst Festival in Bucyrus. 

Denny was a bee keeper for 21 years, enjoyed line dancing, artistic painting, and woodworking.  He always loved corny jokes, loved to laugh and have fun. He liked to say "who has more fun than people!"

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Tammi (Richard) Langoehr of West Point and Trudi (Norm) Bodi of Toledo;  grandsons Matthew (Sabrina) Langoehr of Holland, New York and Thomas Langoehr of Galion; great grandchildren Tyler (McKenna) Roberts of Ashland and Claudette Langoehr of Holland, New York;  brother Alan (Pam) Easterday of Cincinnati; and sisters Denise Easterday of Wadsworth and Bonnie Easterday of Norton.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail at a date to be announced.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
