Weekly Message
for Friday, July 10, 2020
|
|
 Greetings!
Summertime and the living is not as easy as it used to be! Here I am enjoying a beer at a local brewery on some long ago day in another time when we could come and go as we please.
Despite limitations I hope you are finding time for summer pleasures. There is no quarantine on tomatoes or summer melons, barbecue, or the delta breeze. Life calls us to find our joy where and how we can, to celebrate, to connect and to love.
Rev. Roger and I are working on ways to keep us connected during this time of physical separation. We are delighted to offer a new weekly gathering on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 for 60 to 90 minutes. This new happening replaces the Exploring UUism classes and the Ministers' Open House (Friday mornings) we have held weekly for the last four months.
Wellspring Wednesday will be a time for community with fun, learning, sharing, and connection. We are planning a variety of interesting sessions in the coming weeks, with guests, video presentations, and discussions. We welcome your ideas and suggestions. The online format allows us a lot of flexibility and we plan to take full advantage. So join us in the UUSS Zoom space at 7:00 p.m on Wednesday, July 15, for the inaugural session and every Wednesday thereafter.

Shared Offering Recipient for July
Mercy Pedalers
|
|
Every month we give half of the Sunday offering to a local not-for-profit group. UUSS members vote every year to choose 12 community partners that embody our values and reflect our mission to be a force for healing in the world. Our July Sunday offerings will be shared with Mercy Pedalers , who reach out by bicycle to unhoused people on our streets and parkways, offering respect, friendliness, resources and nutrition. Several of our UUSS members are regular peddlers, serving this community with love. Thank you all!
To contribute by PayPal or cellphone text, visit
www.usss.org/donate. Be sure to make a note: "Shared Offering." You may also use U.S. Mail and send a check to UUSS 2425 Sierra Blvd., Sacramento 95825.

Need More Books--or Coffee?
Missing the Bookstore at UUSS?
F
riday Morning Socially-distanced shopping
|
|
Many of us miss browsing in our beloved UUSS Beacon Bookstore. Our volunteers have a solution for those needing new books to read or a bag of coffee, a hymnal, or a CD by a UUSS musician.
Here's how it works:
Sign up for a 30-minute time slot for your exclusive shopping visit, between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. on Fridays.
Sign up by email
with our Office Staff, or call in advance. We will add shifts if Fridays aren't sufficient.
A Bookstore volunteer will be on duty but will keep a safe distance. Wear a mask and wash your hands before and after your visit; consider wearing gloves. If you need a bag, please bring one. All the merchandise has been untouched for weeks, and new books donated won't be sorted or shelved until a week after donation.
Our selection features affordably-priced used fiction and non-fiction, children's books, and new books related to Unitarian Universalism. There are new books written by UUSS poets, ministers and other authors, plus CDs by Ross Hammond and Linda Dawson and other beloved UUSS musicians.
A
lso, you can buy a fresh bag or two of UUSS Chalice Blend Coffee while in the Bookstore! ($12 each, "coffee" in memo line of check)
The Bookstore is accepting book donations but is not accepting magazines now.
