New Books in Non-Fiction Competition and a Mysterious Giveaway!
There are so many interesting non-fiction titles coming to Fulton County Libraries this October that it was a struggle to decide which to highlight in the New Books Newsletter. As always, we strive for variety in our picks, but with multiple excellent titles released this week, we decided to link to some of the books that (narrowly) weren't chosen as features.

In the true crime genre, we've chosen to highlight Ronan Farrow's work on a prominent sexual predator, but we could also have chosen Aaron Glantz's work on Wall Street corruption, or Amaryllis Fox's book on busting bad guys for the CIA. We went with Farrow's title because it also contains elements of celebrity and Hollywood, and so will interest the same readers who might gravitate towards the books released in the same week by Julie Andrews and producer Mike Rowe.

Works of inspiration abound in the autumn, and Cyntoia Brown's memoir was an easy stand-out choice for our Atlanta audience, as many of our readers share Nashville connections. Brown will have a tough time competing with other women in her category for a spot on the bestseller list, with such recognizable names as Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, Ali Wong, Hoda Kotb, and Gail Collins all releasing inspirational works in the first half of October.

Publishers are premiering quite a few new cookbooks next week as well, with Rachael Ray, Melissa Hartwig, and Ellie Krieger all offering updated works - as is Martha Stewart, whom we highlighted because we know books of new cookie recipes are always popular with our patrons!

Our weekly list is rounded out with a work of popular science writing and a business philosophy book, both of which had equally the number of rivals in early October as the titles linked above. No matter what genre you're in the mood to read, you'll always find the newest titles with Fulton County Libraries!
The award winning author of War on peace : the end of diplomacy and the decline of American influence is back with another deeply researched work of reportage.

In a dramatic account of violence and espionage, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow exposes serial abusers and a cabal of powerful interests hell-bent on covering up the truth, at any cost.

In 2017, a routine network television investigation led Ronan Farrow to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood's most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence.
While investigating this story, Farrow and his producer faced a degree of resistance they could not explain -- until now. And a trail of clues revealed corruption and cover-ups from Hollywood to Washington and beyond.

This is the story of the exotic tactics of surveillance and intimidation deployed by wealthy and connected men to threaten journalists, evade accountability, and silence victims of abuse. It's also the story of the women who risked everything to expose the truth and spark a movement.

Both a spy thriller and a meticulous work of investigative journalism, Catch and Kill breaks devastating new stories about the rampant abuse of power and sheds far-reaching light on investigations that shook our culture.

We have lost the war on cancer. We spend $150 billion each year treating it, yet -- a few innovations notwithstanding -- a patient with cancer is as likely to die of it as one was fifty years ago. Most new drugs add mere months to one's life at agonizing physical and financial cost.

In The First Cell, Azra Raza offers a searing account of how both medicine and our society (mis)treats cancer, how we can do better, and why we must. A lyrical journey from hope to despair and back again, The First Cell explores cancer from every angle: medical, scientific, cultural, and personal. Indeed, Raza describes how she bore the terrible burden of being her own husband's oncologist as he succumbed to leukemia. This author has devoted her life to making the unbearable easier to bear, and her book is a vital work of continuing education for anyone who has been touched by a cancer diagnosis for themselves or a loved one.

In her own words, Cyntoia Brown shares the riveting and redemptive story of how she changed her life for the better while in prison, finding hope through faith after a traumatic adolescence of drug addiction, rape, and sex trafficking led to a murder conviction.

Cyntoia Brown was sentenced to life in prison for a murder she committed at the age of sixteen. Her case became national news when celebrities and activists made the hashtag #FreeCyntoia go viral in 2017. She was granted full clemency after having served fifteen years, walking out a free woman on August 7, 2019.

A coming-of-age memoir set against the shocking backdrop of a life behind bars, Free Cyntoia takes you on a spiritual journey as Cyntoia struggles to overcome a legacy of family addiction and a lifetime of feeling ostracized and abandoned by society.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Start With Why and Leaders Eat Last, a bold framework for leadership in today's ever-changing world.

How do we win a game that has no end? Finite games, like football or chess, have known players, fixed rules and a clear endpoint. The winners and losers are easily identified. Infinite games, games with no finish line, like business or politics, or life itself, have players who come and go. The rules of an infinite game are changeable while infinite games have no defined endpoint. There are no winners or losers--only ahead and behind.

The question is, how do we play to succeed in the game we're in?

Simon Sinek offers a framework for leading with an infinite mindset. On one hand, none of us can resist the fleeting thrills of a promotion earned or a tournament won, yet these rewards fade quickly. In pursuit of a Just Cause, we will commit to a vision of a future world so appealing that we will build it week after week, month after month, year after year. Although we do not know the exact form this world will take, working toward it gives our work and our life meaning.

Leaders who embrace an infinite mindset build stronger, more innovative, more inspiring organizations. Click here to reserve The Infinite Game in hardcover, ebook, or mp3 audiobook.

The Man That Got Away by Lynne Truss
The first book of Constable Twitten's mysteries, A Shot in the Dark, was a Publisher's Weekly Mystery and Thriller Top 10 Pick for 2018! Twitten is back for her second adventure with The Man That Got Away.

1957: In the beach town of Brighton, music is playing and guests are sunning themselves, when a young man is found dead, dripping blood, in a deck chair.

Constable Twitten of the Brighton Police Force has a hunch that the fiendish murder may be connected to a notorious nightspot, but his captain and his colleagues are-as ever-busy with other more important issues. Inspector Steine is being conned into paying for the honor of being featured at the Museum of Wax, and Sergeant Brunswick is trying (and failing) to get the attention of the distraught Brighton Belles who found the body. As the case twists and turns, Constable Twitten must find the murderer and convince his colleagues that there's an evil mastermind behind Brighton's climbing crime rate.
