A hearing loop system wirelessly transmits sound directly to an individual's hearing aid or cochlear implant without the need for any additional equipment such as headphones or neck loops. The hearing loop is a wire that circles a room and is connected to the sound system. The loop transmits the sound electromagnetically and the electromagnetic signal is picked up by a telecoil in a hearing aid or cochlear implant. To use a hearing loop, a user flips the t-switch on their hearing aid or cochlear implant.

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association - Edmonton Branch has compiled a list of hearing loops in the Edmonton area and some background information on hearing loop systems. The City of Edmonton has a surplus of furniture and other items and they are making these items available to City-funded not-for-profit agencies. There is no charge for any of the items, but organizations will be responsible to pay for any delivery and installation that is required. All orders will be made through I-Care Office Stock. ECVO will partner Executive Directors new to the human services sector with established Executive Directors with 7+ years of experience leading human services organizations to provide opportunities to transfer knowledge and skills to a new generation of non-profit leaders.

At the Speed Mentoring event, each mentee will have a chance to connect with all eight mentors in a 'speed dating' format. At the end of the event, all mentees and mentors will offer their preferred choices for mentorship, which ECVO will collate into final pairings. Mentors and mentees will then connect for a minimum of two meetings in 2018. Mentees pay a one-time fee to cover administrative costs of the program. 

ECVO is currently looking for eight human services sector Executive Directors with fewer than three years experience in the role who are eager to learn from experienced mentors as part of ECVO's Leadership Series. If you are interested, register for the event.
