2018 Appalachia Service Project Fundraising: 2 More Days!

For 28 years, Cary Presbyterian Church has partnered with Appalachia Service Project. This year, 35CPC volunteers will work in Kentucky from July 8-14. Your donations of cash and snacks are of great help to us each year.

Funds may be contributed at this link. (Wait for the pop-up screen.) Volunteers and others may share this link with family in friends to assist us with fund raising. (Any prepackaged snack donations may be placed in the hall outside the church office until July 7.)

ASP volunteers will be fundraising in the Narthex on Sunday, June 24 and July 1. The team  leaves for Kentucky on July 8 so all food, drink and dollars will need to be donated by July 7. We have a great team this year with lots of newbies (both youth and adults)!

There has been an ASP work day at CPC already. The results can be seen at the back kitchen door (new shed) and at the Outdoor Chapel (bench repairs, new Communion table and deck repairs as well). Thanks for your continuing support!

Liberation Theology for Armchair Theologians
by Miguel A. De La Torre

A concise overview of the global religious movement known as liberation theology focused on defining the major themes of this movement, as well as dispelling some common misconceptions.

Liberation theology attempts to reflect upon the divine as understood from the poor, the marginalized, and the disenfranchised. The key figures, historical developments, and interfaith manifestations are all explored in this thorough introduction.

Nonfiction for adults, available to borrow only in the CPC library.

Summertime Online Learning:
Bishop Michael Curry's Free Class Is Underway
Class is in session (and ups remain open) for the new free class: From Palace to Public Square: The Way of Love with Royal Wedding Preacher Michael Curry. Register and take the class today, it runs through July 15; more than 500 people from around the world have registered so far. Click this link for a video preview.

Nearly 2 billion people perked up to hear the riveting words of Bishop Curry at the 2018 Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. What hit a nerve was an inspiring and encompassing meditation on love. And what's propelled Bishop Curry into the international spotlight is paving the way for even greater Gospel work done in the name of love.

In this course, Bishop Curry relives some of his memories of the Royal Wedding, including analysis of his sermon. He then unpacks what he means by 'The Way of Love', and 'The Jesus Movement.'  This course will spur conversation around evangelism and discipleship.
This free class is ideal for those looking to deepen their understanding of love and to ponder new ways of sharing and living into God's love. Resources for those that want to take the course as a group are available in the course description.
This Big Class is brought to you by Forward Movement.
