How to Update your Direct Contact Information in NPPES to comply with the
new CMS Rule

Tuesday, Jul 28, 2020
12:00 PM CDT

Attend this webinar to learn how to comply with the new requirements of the CMS Interoperability Final Rule. CMS will begin publicly reporting in late 2020 those providers who do not list or update their digital contact information in the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES). This includes providing digital contact information such as secure digital endpoints like a Direct Address and/or a FHIR API endpoint.

Why is this Important?   Besides being compliant with new regulations, the exchange of health information between physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care providers and patients can use endpoints to appropriately access and securely share a patients vital medical information electronically. This exchange helps to ensure the right care at the right time for your patients.   After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

How COVID-19 is affecting practices financially

The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) reported in late April that 97 percent of medical practices have experienced a negative financial impact directly or indirectly related to COVID-19. This includes a 60 percent decrease in patient volume and a 55 percent decrease in revenue since the beginning of the pandemic, resulting in many practices forced to furlough or layoff staff.

Primary care physicians are experiencing diminished patient volumes which can be detrimental to a private practice that does not have a safety blanket from a large corporate entity and many medical practices are struggling to keep their doors open as volume collapses and money stops coming in.

Elation Health, which has tracked trends for more than 14,000 independent primary care practices during the COVID-19 pandemic, reported the smaller 1-2 prescriber practices are very much in crisis, with a 30 percent decline in charted patient visits that has stabilized but not rebounded. CMS
Final Interoperability Rule
sets deadline
to update digital contact information in NPPES

CMS will begin publicly reporting in late 2020 those providers who do not list or update their digital contact information in the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES). This includes providing digital contact information such as secure digital endpoints like a Direct Address and/or a FHIR API endpoint. Making the list of providers who do not provide this digital contact information public will encourage providers to make this valuable, secure contact information necessary to facilitate care coordination and data exchange easily accessible.

Four emerging technology solutions to help healthcare organizations prepare for the new reality.

It was only just a few months ago that healthcare organizations were focused on implementing emerging technologies and advanced analytics to achieve competitive advantage, improve patient experiences, and reach better outcomes.  To day, their mandate is vastly different: driving innovation to manage COVID-19, arguably a matter of life and death. Thankfully, telehealth is able to keep uninfected patients separate from those who are critically ill; remote monitoring is helping facilitate recovery for those convalescing at home; predictive analytics is used to direct resources and supplies to areas overwhelmed by patient volumes, and advanced analytics are helping predict and track the virus.

It is a critically urgent time to fast-track emerging technology adoption. Quick-win and creative deployment models can help healthcare organizations operate with great agility while responding to the outbreak. Solutions implemented today should be capable of being sustained and improved over time.

Four emerging technology solutions can help healthcare organizations not only respond and get ahead of COVID-19, but also prepare for the new reality when this public health crisis is behind us. READ MORE....

How Remote
Patient Monitoring Programs
Are Beneficial
A range of wireless tools help providers track data, curb readmissions
and improve outcomes after a patient's discharge.

Despite the best efforts of clinicians, some hospital readmissions are necessary and unavoidable. A cardiac patient may develop fluid around his or her heart, or infection could set in at a surgical site.  Other discharged patients may show up in the emergency department after experiencing vague symptoms such as dizziness or a spike in blood pressure, concerns that could be effectively treated without hospitalization, says Dr. Peyman Benharash, director of the cardiac telehealth program at  UCLA Health.

It's why the organization relies on  remote patient monitoring (RPM) and  telehealth solutions to reduce readmissions and to improve outcomes. When deemed ready, some patients are sent home with  wearable tools that track metrics such as blood pressure, weight and oxygen saturation. Combined with videoconferencing, the technology offers a way to keep tabs from afar. READ MORE....
