Greetings from Jim Morton - CFCC President
Each day at CFCC brings so many rewards to all of us who serve here, and we're so glad to share these exciting moments with all of you! Thanks once again for taking time out of your day to read about happenings at the college.

First, I'd like to officially share that CFCC has enjoyed a strong start this fall, with enrollment numbers up 5% from last year. It's truly rewarding to see our campus growing and thriving. We expect to see that trend continue as we strive to provide the best programs the Cape Fear region has to offer. Thanks to all of you for your part in helping us grow and be the best!

CFCC was proud to host the State Board of Community Colleges 2019 annual planning session. We enjoyed having the NCCCS State Board of Community Colleges, the State Foundation Board, and System Office President and Staff on campus for their annual meeting, which consisted of a three day session at Union Station's Windell Daniels Hall. We had a great time hosting and were pleased that the board could enjoy some time on our beautiful campus.

BB&T Auditorium, McKeithan Center
CFCC North Campus

A great program for everyone! CFCC graduated 31 Lineworkers at our 5th graduation since the program was implemented — we have 144 graduates to date. Each graduate walked out of BB&T Auditorium with an offer of employment, which shows the amazing success of this program!

This graduation was especially exciting, as we graduated our first female lineworker, Caitlin Graybill. She will be sharing her story, so stay tuned, you will be hearing more about Caitlin in the weeks to come.

“As physically demanding as the job is, Caitlin has earned her spot like everyone else through her relentlessness and dedication.”
—John Downing, CFCC Dean of Continuing Education
9/11 Ceremony - We Remember.
September 11, 2019
On Wednesday morning, September 11, CFCC employees, students, and guests gathered at our north campus 9/11 memorial to honor and remember the victims, first responders, and survivors of this horrific day. Attendees included our First Responders Academy and Basic Law Enforcement students. Speaking at this event were Chris Nelson, Director of Public Safety Training, and Jim Morton, CFCC President.

Our 9/11 memorial was erected in 2011 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2001 attacks. The memorial consists of two steel boxes, which represent the World Trade Center Twin Towers. The 3,000 small holes in the towers represent each life that was taken that day. These holes allow light to come through, to ensure "every life will be lit," said Justin Nixon, CFCC Alum and lead designer of the memorial.

CFCC students planned and executed almost every piece of this memorial, which was built around a steel beam from one of the twin towers. The monument sits on a pentagon-shaped slab with plates that mark the time and location of each attack that occurred that morning.

September 24, 2019
Getting acquainted! CFCC Foundation donors and scholarship recipients get to know each other as they gather in Windell Daniels Hall for an afternoon of cookies and lemonade. This was a great event where our donors got to meet and talk with the students whose lives are impacted by their giving!
