VOLUME 52 | August 3, 2018
Dear Neighbors,
Recently, my council colleagues and I heard the story of Molly, a six-month old dog. Left outside without any shade for days, Molly sustained severe burns; she was lucky to be taken to Animal Care Services for medical treatment and today is alive and well with her new family.

What Molly suffered was completely preventable. Today, my colleagues and I approved an ordinance requiring pet owners to provide outdoor pets with access to shade at all times. It’s a measure we’re taking so that our ACS officers have the tools they need to protect pets across the city.

Additionally, I’m happy to announce that I have urged city staff to create an ACS Ambassador Program. There’s a clear will in the community to work more closely with ACS to promote animal welfare in the city—I want to ensure residents can act on it. Please stay tuned for the launch of the program. We will need dedicated volunteers—like the great ones we have in our district.

And lastly, I'm proud to announce that I am a new dog owner! Read more about my rescue dogs in the Neighbors of the Week section.
Yours in public service,

Ask Ana Anything
One of the ways Councilwoman Sandoval wants to give you the answers you need about city government is through "Ask Ana Anything", a recurring part of the weekly District 7 newsletter. Have a question for Ana? Email it to district7@sanantonio.gov with the subject "Ask Ana Anything".
Hi Ana,

I’ve been trying to take my kids to the pool as much as possible this summer. Is there anything the city is planning for the kids?

Thank you,
Pool Papa
Dear Pool Papa,

Yes—this year’s Back to School Splash Bash is actually coming up tomorrow, August 4!

Each year, the Parks Dept. hosts the Back to School Splash Bash at one of the many pools across the city. It’s an excellent event. Everyone is invited to Kingsborough Pool (350 Felps) from 1 to 3 p.m. for swimming, games, and a chance to winsome brand new school supplies.

City pools will be open for just 10 days more this year before closing on August 13, so make sure to hit the pools soon!
Thank you for your question.

Yours in public service,

Ana E. Sandoval

Neighbors of the Week
This week, District 7 welcomes two new constituents: my two puppies!
My significant other and I adopted these two adorable doggies at our City’s Animal Care Services Facility on Highway 151. Thanks to the work of City staff and partnerships with organizations like Pets Alive and others, puppies are finding forever homes every day.

This little white puppy was timid when I met her at Pets Alive. She didn’t bark for over 24 hours after I brought her home. Now she won’t stop! She enjoys splashing in water and running in the back yard.

The larger puppy, who is approximately 6 months old, was playful, friendly and ready to go to her new home when I saw her at the ACS kennels. While we only had plans to bring home one dog, how could we say no to those honey eyes and wagging tail?

I am inviting District 7 residents to help us name them. ! Submit your best dog names by either visiting here or replying to the newsletter with your suggestions. I’ll announce the two winning names in next week’s newsletter.
Additionally, as part of the many services they provide, ACS offers free dog training to all ACS Adopters and free classes for all pet owners on subjects ranging from "How to Potty Train Your Pet" to "How to Handle Aggression." I’ll be taking advantage of them—you should, too!
