Volunteers Needed for Application Review
Jump Street needs your help...We are looking for volunteers who want to help support the arts by serving on a Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) Project Stream Application Review Panel.  Serving on a panel can be an exciting and rewarding volunteer experience. You'll have a chance to meet new people from a variety of backgrounds while supporting the creative communities in which you live and/or work. You will get a unique look at the grant making process, learn about the many creative ways artists and arts organizations are making a difference locally and have a say in how state arts grants are spent in your community.  The Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) Project Stream grants provide opportunities for arts organizations, individual artists and community-based groups to apply for up to $2,500 in funding to support performances, exhibitions and other arts projects that are presented to the public and take place between a designated time period.  The Panel Review will take place on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 (with the possibility of a ½ day on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.  This would depend on how the panel does the 1st day) A continental breakfast is offered from 8:15-8:45 am, followed by the panel review from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.  Please note that lunch is also provided...along with a lot of chocolate to keep up the energy.  P anelists must reside or work in Cumberland, Dauphin or Lebanon Counties and must be an adult 18 years of age or older.  For questions and more information, contact Melissa Snyder at 717-238-1887x1103 or [email protected]

Volunteers Needed at Food Pantry
Since converting The Salvation Army food pantry to a choice shopping model, we have doubled the number of people we are serving each month including larger families and those with specific dietary needs.  We are also providing more fresh foods vs. one-size-fits-all bags of canned goods and boxes.  W e currently need volunteers to assist clients with choosing their food items, packing bags, friendly conversation and more.  If you can assist, click here to sign up. Be The Change - Adult Mentors Needed
The YWCA's Violence Intervention and Prevention Department is seeking adult mentors to participate in a new, innovative human trafficking prevention initiative: PAATH to Success. Currently, fifteen youth have expressed interest in partnering with a mentor and are waiting for caring individuals to become mentors. VIP has ten successful mentor/mentee matches who are already participating in the PAATH to Success program. 
This trauma-informed mentoring program targets child victims of commercial sexual exploitation and at-risk youth ages 12-17. PAATH to Success mentors provide support to the youth, with the goal of decreasing risk factors and risk-taking behaviors while increasing positive social supports and social capital.

Volunteer Victim Advocate Training
The YWCA is now accepting applications for volunteer victim advocate training. This four-week training is designed for individuals interested in providing support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Capital RC&D Seeks Treasurer
Capital RC&D Area Council, Inc. is a regional non- profit organization that networks people, organizations and projects to promote responsible use and conservation of our region's natural resources. Our programs seek to blend natural resource conservation with local economic and social values.   We are seeking a qualified volunteer to serve as the organization's treasurer. The Women's Fund of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities is accepting nominations for the Karen F. Snider Women in Philanthropy Award through August 31, 2018. Each year, at the Power of the Purse fundraising event, the Women's Fund honors local female philanthropists. The Power of the Purse is the largest fundraising event for the Women's Fund with the purpose of creating a deeper understanding of a woman's ability to be philanthropic.  N ominees will be judged on how she gives freely and unselfishly by providing her time, talent and treasure to philanthropic community activities, how she i nspires others and acts as a role model,  how she has a positive impact on the direction and success of women and children related to community projects, programs or individuals, and finally, how she  improves the lives of others.   Nominees for this award mu st be a female who has worked or lived in the South Central PA counties of Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Perry, or the Dillsburg Area, m ust have demonstrated an interest in issues related to women's health, education, and/or economic self-sufficiency, and m ust have provided a financial commitment to the Women's Fund and/or other women's issues, programs, or projects within our local area.  Click here for more information and to submit your nomination!

The Annual Meeting provides the YWCA with an opportunity to highlight the invaluable work of those who have gone above and beyond to help the families served in the region.    Nominations in the following categories will be accepted through Tuesday, September 4, 2018.  Please take a few minutes to consider community members who embody the mission of the YWCA in the following ways.  
  • The Ella Frazier Award was created in memory of Ella Frazier who was the executive director of the Phyllis Wheatly Branch of the YWCA from 1923-1955.  To commemorate Ms. Frazier's legacy, the award is presented to a community leader who is active in issues related to women and children and has worked to eliminate racism and promote diversity.  
  • Jane Addams Peace Award is presented to honor those who work to promote peace through community action and serve as a living example of quiet courage. 
  • YWCA President's Award honors contributions made to a YWCA program, service or to the resource development department. 
  • Sarah Alyce Wright Award recognizes a board or committee member's contribution to the YWCA in advocacy or public policy.
  • Carole Forker Gibbons Award honors an individual or group who has demonstrated years of steadfast dedication to a YWCA program or service.

Minimize Conflict. Maximize Attendance! 
You plan, you prepare, you promote your event...then you learn that another big fundraiser is being held during your event! Eventsavvy is a tool created for nonprofit and community based organizations to use to minimize conflicting events in order to increase attendance for all.   Eventsavvy provides a centralized location for organizations in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry Counties to post upcoming events, so that other groups have the information they need to avoid using the same date whenever possible.   If you have an upcoming event that meets the submission criteria, you are invited to post the event.  Visit eventsavvy.org for more details and to post your group's events.  All events submitted to The Community Caller will be transferred to eventsavvy.org on a monthly basis. 
Strawberry Square and Harristown Enterprises are partnering to host  The Salvation Army Harrisburg Capital City Region's "Fill-A-Backpack" event. Visit The Salvation Army table in the Atrium of Strawberry Square during the lunch hour  for the opportunity to purchase basic school supplies to fill backpacks donated by Harristown. Monetary donations will be used to purchase basic school supplies such as pencils, rulers, highlighters, pencil cases, 3-ring binders, markers, notebooks, etc., to fill a backpack with a total of $40 worth of supplies. HYP Italian Lake Music Series Continues  
Harrisburg Young Professionals presents the final two concerts of the series.  Sunday, August 5, 2018 features Mark DeRose & The Dreadnought Brigade, beginning at 6 pm. Save the Date for Randi's House of Angels' Third Annual 'A Round Fore Randi' Golf Outing on Friday, September 7,  2018 at the beautiful Rich Valley Golf Course in Mechanicsburg.   Proceeds support Randi's House of Angels programs for children that are victims of domestic violence including, Randi's  KIDz  Club, a ten-week therapeutic group for children; and Randi's Camp, a three-day interactive summer camp. To date, we have helped more than 100 children. Additionally, we now serve SIX counties in Central PA: Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry, York, Adams and Lebanon.

Mark your calendars for The Power of Style Fashion Show on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Hilton Harrisburg from 5:30-8:30 pm.   Annually, the YWCA hosts this event in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  This year's event will be held in September - please note the change.   We will still be featuring local, women-owned boutiques on the runway, vendor tables, a keynote speaker, raffle and silent auction items, and a jewelry raffle.   Once again, this year's fashion show will be an evening of style at the Hilton Harrisburg, featuring a true runway experience for our guests with seating lining the runway.  For more information, click here.  

9th Annual Fall Fest Hosted by the YWCA Junior Board
