When you receive your email from Laraine Marthinsen, George Hall or Martha Cronin, Amy Lousararian, Lisa Chan, Pamela Bathen-White, Russell or Mary Pollard, or Lana Peta, you
want to open that email, and when one of those gracious folk invite you to a gathering with others from Christ Lutheran Church, you want to say yes.
The Stewardship Committee has planned a series of cottage meetings to put our heads, hearts and hands together-to deepen our relationships over a shared meal or refreshments and conversation about what matters most to us at CLC. Later, you'll receive a pledge card, but you won't be you asked to turn it in that evening (or day), and you won't be pressured to break the bank when you do.
If you can't make it to the gathering to which you're invited, let your hosts know, and we'll do our best to find one that better suits your schedule. But please do join your siblings in Christ for conversation. We do best when all of us take part.

The CLC Choir resumes rehearsals this week on Thursday, September 5 at 7:45 pm as we prepare to sing for our regular Sunday service schedule and for our event at MCI Framingham on Thursday, September 12. We welcome new singers, encourage musical skill development through regular vocal training. Expressing our faith through song is a particular honor and joy.
Sadly, Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Shrewsbury has recently closed, ending a six decade ministry that included a major commitment to music in the life of the parish and community. I had the pleasure of serving Mt. Olivet as music director 1987-94. Recently, they kindly offered church musicians in the area a chance to select choral music from their extensive music library for their own church choirs. I am grateful for the chance to have brought numbers of useful pieces to our Christ Lutheran library and look forward to incorporating them into our CLC Choir repertoire. Like Christ Lutheran, Mt. Olivet was an early recipient of a "rescued" pipe organ rebuilt by the Andover Organ Company. Happily, Mt. Olivet donated their organ to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Marlborough, MA.

The adult forum resumes on Sunday, September, 15, at 9:00. We'll begin the semester with a look at how Lutherans read the Bible. What are our particular lenses for understanding God's living Word? Join us in the Memorial Room!

: ELCA Pastor-writer Lenny Duncan comes to UniLu, Cambridge, for a reading from his new book, a love letter to our church body, Monday September 16th at 7pm. University Lutheran is at 66 Winthrop Street Cambridge (Harvard Square) This event includes a reading from a chapter, books for sale, and signing. The event is free to all!

Bible Study
Led by Pastor Richard Hurst, the Bible study group meets each Thursday at the church. We invite you to join with us as we gather for coffee and refreshments at 9:45 a.m. in the Memorial Room so that the hour discussion/study can begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

- Stop by Natick Days on Saturday between 9:00 & 3:00.
- Sign up to provide a dish for the brunch on September 15.
- Make a note-mental or otherwise-of the change back to 10:00 worship on September 15.

SeptemberFest, Sept. 15,
is almost here! Note that the time for worship moves back to 10:00, and invite friends and family to the Appalachian liturgy, Of the Land and Seasons. Come at 9:00 for Confirmation and Adult Forum, and stay for brunch. Thanks to all who have agreed to provide food, and to help set up or clean up.

Wonder and Wisdom also returns the following Sunday, September 22. Grab a grand-parent or child, that is, or a neighbor, niece or nephew or friend, and come at 5:00 for cross-generational worship around the (supper) table and faith formation. We'll finish up between 7:00 and 7:30.

Called to contemplate the cost of discipleship today, we might be helped by translating Paul's request to Philemon into our prayer of the day: Refresh my heart in Christ. Strengthened by the company and forgiveness of the Christ in the blessed sacrament and recalling God's grace in remembrance of baptism, we can be strengthened in this hour to "choose life"-to choose life in God as our own.
