Andy DeLong said customers try to bring their pets into his Publix every week. He hopes a new sign changes that. Publix supermarkets throughout the state recently placed signs on many of their storefronts that forbid pets to enter unless they are trained service animals.

Blue-green algae spreading along Florida's east coast is threatening homes and sending people to the hospital. At least 15 people were treated last week at Martin Health System emergency rooms after having contact with the St. Lucie River, according to a report at tcpalm.com.

The horrifying green slime flowing out of Lake Okeechobee has steered clear of Palm Beach and Broward counties so far, and environmental officials say they're cautiously optimistic the two counties will make it through the summer without major algae blooms.
