Garbagia: Hallucination Station
September 22nd, 2019,  2pm - 6pm
El Jardin Del Paraiso
710 E 5th St

The Garbagia Project's fourth season keeps expanding its horizons. This year, Garbagia: Hallucination Station explores re-envisioning of a new world. We continue to talk about climate change, cleaning our planet and reducing and reusing our beloved material and resource, GARBAGE. We search for better perceptions, invented states of mind and places as "enlightenment". Hallucination Station is our stage to portray the possibilities.

'Garbagia' is the name artist Rolando Politi, of Bullet Space, gave to his vision back in the 90's of an alternative world made out of trash.

'Garbagia Project' is Loisaida Center's Summer Program based on a series of free, open community workshops with a focus on creating art with recycled materials while creating a story working on present issues related to ecological topics, community and nature/urban resources, understanding trash as a treasure for the development of a sustainable life and protecting the world.

Activist Estates: A Radical History of Property in Loisaida
October 2nd - December 14th, 2019

#activistestates                                 @loisaidainc.center

An examination of participatory practices, buildings, and properties in the Lower East Side that are celebrated sites of resistance.

Vacant lots, storefronts, schoolhouses, factories and abandoned tenements in Loisaida became havens for experimental, communal practices. Amid current debates about urban justice and access to the city, Activist Estates critically re-evaluates the place of counter-institutional practices that shape the landscape of New York City and reveal the critical relationship between real estate, architecture and activism.

Join us in celebrating the intersecting cultures of participation and activist communities past and present on October 2nd, 2019, with special guest performances.
