Hurricane Dorian Follow-up
Effects of Hurricane Dorian in the Forest Preserve

  • The Greenwood Drive Entrance to the Forest Preserve will be closed until further notice.
  • The Rice Dike Trail is closed.
  • All Forest Preserve boardwalks are closed.
  • Fish Island Road is accessible, but we request that you do not drive beyond Fish Island.

Storm Debris Information

Neighborhood Debris drop off sites open
Neighborhood debris drop off sites are for Sea Pines Property Owners only, for debris that property owners collect from their private property.

Permitted items in the neighborhood debris drop off sites:

  • Palm fronds, leaves, sticks, branches and vegetative debris (Trees or branches must be under 6 inches in diameter). Please note CSA does not have the ability to process material 6 inches and above.

Un-authorized items in the neighborhood debris drop off sites:
  • The dumping of paper, plastic, metal, concrete, building materials, vegetative wood materials 6 inches and above or food waste are strictly prohibited.

Commercial landscapers
Commercial landscapers are NOT permitted to dump landscaping debris in the neighborhood drop sites or roadside within Sea Pines.   Landscape service providers caught dumping in non-authorized locations as noted above may be cited and escorted off of the Plantation.

Please help by notifying your landscape service provider of this restriction.
Maintenance Updates
Boardwalk Repairs

Repairs needed to Boardwalks #11 and #12, due to impacts from Hurricane Dorian, have been completed. A set of stairs (see photo) for boardwalk #12 had to be built given the current conditions of the dunes and proximity to the mean high tide line on the beach. We will continue to monitor conditions of the dune. 

Repair work on Boardwalk #25 will begin the week of September 16, 2019. This project is expected to take 1 to 2 weeks, weather permitting.
Widening of the North Sea Pines Drive Leisure Trail

  • The North Sea Pines Drive Leisure Trail widening project has begun.
  • The project will last approximately two weeks.
  • Signs are posted for bikers to dismount and walk their bikes through the Marriott Monarch Parking Lot when the trail is not passable. Please see detour map below.

Town of Hilton Head Island executing drainage repairs and improvements along Ruddy Turnstone Road

This project was delayed due to Hurricane Dorian, work will continue through this week weather permitting.

Town to host US 278 Corridor Improvements Public Meeting
The Town of Hilton Head invites you to a public information meeting

The South Carolina Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting on Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island (151 Gumtree Rd, Hilton Head Island), to share information about the U.S. 278 Corridor Improvement Project. The U.S. 278 Corridor Improvements project runs along U.S. 278 from Moss Creek Drive in Bluffton to Spanish Wells Road on Hilton Head Island.
 
The purpose of the meeting is to:
  • Provide an opportunity to discuss the proposed US 278 Corridor Improvements project individually with representatives of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT).
  • Provide an update to the community on the project.
  • Share with the public the proposed roadway improvements (reasonable alternatives).
  • Gather input from the public or any interested organization.
 
This meeting will be conducted in an “open house” format, and there will be a video presentation approximately every 5 minutes. SCDOT would like to hear from you. Please come share your input. SCDOT will also accept comments online for the project from now through Oct. 18th. Visit https://www.scdot278corridor.com/public-information-meeting-2019 .
