Budget Blog: How the City leverages funding sources
|
Round Rock City Council is considering a property tax rate of 43.9 cents per $100 of valuation, an increase of 3.7 cents above this year’s effective tax rate of 40.2 cents.
For every $1 the City of Round Rock collects in residential property taxes, the City uses another $4.36 from other sources to fund the $121 million General Fund budget, which pays for core services like Police, Fire, Library, Transportation and Parks.

Express advances to Pacific Coast Championship Series
|
Fresh off winning the American Conference Championship, the
Round Rock Express
are now battling the Sacramento River Cats (San Francisco Giants affiliate) for supremacy in the Pacific Coast League.
The best-of-five series started in Sacramento Tuesday evening and will head home to Dell Diamond for game three at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13. If necessary, game four would take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, and game five would be played on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Williamson County shelter featuring $2 pet adoptions

Now is a better time than ever to consider adopting or fostering a furry companion! Williamson County Animal Shelter is currently offering $2 adoptions on adult dogs and cats to help address crowding at the facility. The fee covers basic vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm screening and a microchip. The shelter's regular fee of $75 still applies to kittens and puppies.
Fostering and adoption both require a valid ID, and you must be at least 18 years old.

Add some more color to your life with free recycled paint

Do you have a small space in your home in need of a touch up? How about a DIY project that you've been hoping to finish with just the right stain?
The City of Round Rock always has free paint, primers and stain available at the Round Rock Recycling Center,
which is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 310 Deepwood Drive. These items have been recycled by fellow residents during the City's monthly Household Hazardous Waste events. Products that appear to be in good condition are made available to the public, and can be picked up at the
Recycling Center
during regular hours of operation. You don't even have to be a City of Round Rock utility customer to take home re-use paint!
Cleaning products, fertilizers, pesticides and pool chemicals are also usually available for free to the public at the Center — come by before this weekend's
Shred for a Paws Cause event to help clear our inventory of re-use items.
For liability purposes, a signed waiver will be required before any items can be removed from the site.

We remember: Round Rock Fire, Police honor 9/11 heroes
|
|
Members of the Round Rock Fire and Police Department met Wednesday morning to honor the fallen first responders who responded to the attacks on Sept. 11, climbing 110 flights of stairs at the Public Safety Training Center’s training tower. The departments held a ceremony after the honorary climb, and carried a fire hose with the names of heroes lost on that tragic day 18 years ago.

Grow your small business with Biz.ability classes

The Round Rock Public Library and Austin SCORE will offer a series of free Biz.ability workshops for entrepreneurs and small business owners from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 20 through Oct. 25 at the Round Rock Public Library, 216 E. Main St.
These free workshops, presented by recognized experts and practitioners, will cover a variety of issues facing small business owners and entrepreneurs including finances, marketing, and strategic planning.
This series is sponsored by the Friends of the Round Rock Public Library, and a library card is not required to register.

The Chalk Walk Arts Festival is Round Rock’s largest festival for the arts, highlighting beautiful sidewalk murals. This year's event will be held at the Dell Diamond, making room for more live music and activities for the whole family! The event and parking are free, with food and drinks for sale. Activities for kids include a children's chalk zone area, train rides, the Austin Bike Zoo, roaming characters including Curious George and stilt walkers, and a face painting tent.

Each registered participant will receive two meals, s’mores and a t-shirt.
