September 14 - 5 PM - Rockport Arts on Fire - Iron Pour. Event opens at 5pm. First Iron Pour is at 7pm -
Iron is melted in a specially-designed furnace, called a cupola. Fuel, or coke, is added to begin the heating process. Once the furnace is up to temperature, pieces of iron and additional coke are gradually added through the top of the cupola. As iron melts, it collects around a tap at the bottom of the furnace. When enough iron is melted, the tap is opened and the hot iron flows down a channel into a ladle. A metal arts crew, consisting of five artists will pour the molten iron into scratch blocks, which participants will have had the opportunity to carve with their own designs. Once the blocks cool, the hardened designs will be released, and participants will have souvenirs ready to take home with them that same night. Scratch Book Sales begin at 5pm. Supply is limited.
September 7 - 10am - 4pm Rockport Art Loop. 10 art spaces have simultaneous openings in one night for an al fresco art experience.
