St. Catharines Cultural Investment Program (SCCIP)  Upcoming Deadline!
 
Application materials are now available on the City's website for the following programs:
 
DEADLINE: Friday October 25, 2019
Applications must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on deadline day. No late applications will be accepted.

SCCIP INFO DROP-IN MEETINGS

First time applying to SCCIP? Want an overview of the programs? The Cultural Services Office will be holding an information "Drop-In" day at the St. Catharines Museum. Culture Coordinator Ashley Judd-Rifkin will be available to discuss programs, confirm eligibility and answer any questions you might have. Appointments can be made in advance by contacting Ashley at [email protected]. Or, just drop in and meet with Ashley on a first-come first-served basis. See you there!

CULTURE DAYS IN ST. CATHARINES
 
September 27, 28 & 29, 2019
Culture Days is a Canada-wide celebration that is the largest-ever public participation campaign undertaken by the arts and cultural community in this country. Culture Days features FREE hands-on family-friendly activities that invite the public to participate in the "behind-the-scenes" experiences.

EXHIBITIONS

2019 City of St. Catharines Annual Juried Exhibit:
Transformations
Public Opening Reception: Friday, September 27, 2019, 4 pm
Where: St. Catharines City Hall, 3rd Floor, 50 Church Street
On display from September 23, 2019 to March 2020

Artists were invited to submit artwork that investigates the positive and negative transitions and transformations that shape human beings and the world.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS: Emily Andrews, Yvonne Benyo, Irma Bull, Danny Custodio, Renu D'Cunha,  Sandy Fairbairn, Janny Fraser,  Janet Ingrao, Arnold McBay, Colleen McTigue, Lauren Regier,  Kaitlyn Roberts, Jon Shaw, Bruce Thompson, Kim Van Stygeren,  Art Weaver and Jan Yates .

 
Carl Beam: Us & Everything
On display in the Joy Williams Lobby at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre until December 2019.  An exhibit of works by contemporary Indigenous artist Carl Beam. Carl Beam (Ojibwe, 1943 - 2005), is one of the most important artists in Canadian Contemporary Art History, noted as the first Canadian of Native Ancestry to have his work purchased by the National Gallery of Canada as Contemporary Art.

1. Film Screening |   Risking Everything
September 24, October 1 and October 8, 7 pm
By Donation
The 34 minute documentary about Black History tells a story about the many ways stories are told: in song and the singers, in clay and the hands that mold it, and in the landscapes that create us. "Risking Everything" is a story with many voices.
2. Family History Workshop
September 28, 10 am to 4 pm
Participants will gain tools, resources, and knowledge to gather, preserve, and share their personal family histories. Topics include organizing and preserving family photographs and archival material, caring for family heirlooms, and recording family stories through oral histories interviews and written documentation.

Masterworks 1: Jewels in the Crown
Presented by: Niagara Symphony Orchestra
September 22, 2:30 to 5:30 pm
At the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre
Revel in sumptuous music for orchestra and the warm, almost human, voice of the cello. The NSO opens this season with jewels of symphonic and solo repertoire: Dvořák's masterpiece for cello and the magnificent first symphony by Dvořák's friend and mentor, Brahms.

Presented by Essential Collective Theatre at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre
Shows: October 3-12
As a teenager, Rudi discovers that his father was a doctor at Auschwitz. Questioning redemption, love, guilt and the sins of the father, East of Berlin  follows Rudi's emotional upheaval as he comes to terms with a frightening past that was never his own. Written by Hannah Moscovitch.

Music: Cicada Music & Arts Festival
Saturday, October 5, 11:30 am to 11 pm
Cicada is a one day music festival hosted on the picturesque Henley Island in St. Catharines (Port Dalhousie), where attendees can discover some of Canada's premier artists alongside rising stars from the Niagara Region.

Nurturing Our Roots Annual Traditional Pow Wow
Presented by the Niagara Regional Native Centre
at Montebello Park
Saturday, October 5, 10:30 am to 6:30 pm
Pow Wows are one of the best ways to experience Indigenous culture  through dancing, singing, drumming, foods, and crafts.
